Decision: PSU/Jefferson or RPI/Albany

May 1st is quickly approaching, but I still haven't decided where I want to go to college and medical school. I've tossed around so many pros and cons, but there are just endless things to consider with combined programs. With a decision of this kind of importance, I need input from the outside. So, what are your esteemed opinions of the 6-year program at Penn State with Jefferson and the 7-year program at Rensselaer with Albany? Please, oh please, help me pick a program!

PSU/Jefferson is a great program. But then again, I haven't heard of the other one so my opinion is biased. I'm guessing PSU/Jefferson might cost a little less because it is one year shorter as well.

If you pick PSU/Jefferson, I would suggest going the 7 year route there instead of 6. I've heard people in the 6 year program feel they miss out on too much undergrad experience.

Yup...I would say sign up for the 6 year program first and you can always switch to 7 if you want.

You cannot, however, switch from 7 to 6.

Some have found the undergrad experience a bit tedious so overall, 6 is still the more popular option when entering!

go to psu/jeff

i got into drexel's 7 year and rpi's 7 year as well... i chose drexel because philly>albany
...plus in your case... jefferson med >>>> albany med

... and i personally would do 7 years at psu... i applied to that program[didnt get in]... but... if i had... i would have done 7... what's the rush?

rpi/albany is good... but psu/jeff is better
you'll have a better social life and academic experience at psu

anyways... good luck grl

hey...I don't know much about the RPI program, but go to the PSU program! Did you go to the prog weekend at Penn state? That would have given you a better picture of what to expect once you're there. I would also choose the 7 year program. My opinion of the 6 yr when I was there was that it was very stressful.

yeah... def do 7 years..

like... y put yourself through 6?... that means that you have to give up your summers... and the lasttttt thing you want to do is burn your self out BEFORE med skool... anyway.. gl

express u can use ap credits to bypass summers.. many do that
and still are qualified to do the 6 year route

the other thing to consider is that the majority of the program still enrolls into the 6 year program

if you are particularly close to the students in your year and want to remain in the same class level as them when they matriculate to jefferson, you might have to go 6 year

then again, if you intend to make many more friends outside the program, the 7 year program would give you some time off during the summers. I should add the 7 year program isn't really more relaxed as it requires you to fulfill more credit requirements than the 6 year one.

Thanks guys for all of your advice. By the way, I made my decision and I'm going to Penn State and Jefferson.

RPI/AMC 7-year program is quite relaxed. I'm having a great time. I'm in my most difficult year (organic chem) and although its very challenging, I have time to slack off. I think the group of people in my program are great. The graduates I know all are successful. In fact, the avg. RPI/AMC board score is 15 points above the national avg and AMC's avg. Every single bs/md graduate is also in the top half of their AMC class and this has been going on for over a decade. Research is available. Nevertheless, both of these programs are good, not much of a difference in terms of academics. Pick whichever is closer to home.

hey, njasian, i'm goin to psu/jeff too! are you goin 6yr or 7yr?

hey were any of you guys at the psu prog weekend? I'm also going to the program---7 year option.

I'm doing the 6 year program, and yes I was at Prog Weekend. I was the asian girl from New Jersey, which is a shocker I'm sure. What are you guys putting on your Resident Hall forms. I'm not sure yet.

By the way, I'm sorry for being genetically incapable of creating interesting or at least somewhat mysterious screennames. I'm also the girl whose AIM screenname is just her full name, in case you were wondering. Stellar.

hey, nj asian, do you have a roommate for the summer? i really want one whose in the program too. my sn is supersneakyny. i hope you dont think i'm weird or something, but i've been lookin around for someone. so maybe we can talk or something

hey sophie! yea...your sn is pretty creative. I'm yummangopie btw.

hey...I'm most likely going to PSU too:-) I want to do 7 years, but now I'm wondering if I should put down 6 years. Do kids in the 7 year still live in the same dorm as kids in the 6 years? From Prog weekend, it didn't look that way. It looked like the 6 years and 7 years did their own separate thing (judging from the fact that there was only 1 currently enrolled 7 year). Who on this board is doing 6 and who is doing 7?

Tigger 10 and NJAsianFemale...I met both of you at prog weekend. I was the hip-hop loving girl from NJ:-)

SK i'm looking to do 7 years.. hopefully it isn't so separated b/t our class no matter if we are 6 or 7 year progs, i wanna know my class :)

lol i don't remember u guys; i was the indian kid from san diego; still don't know if i will attend!

rishug i remember you....you were reading that book during the physio class lol
