Decision Time!!! Need Help ASAP please!!

Alright, I'm from UPenn, and this question is for my cousin, who's an undecided engineering major.

She's been accepted by the University of Iowa and Michigan State University. She's an international student, so costs are obviously high. Mich state costs about $50k, and Iowa will cost around $38k (including scholarships). Which one should she opt for? She wants to got to a top notch grad school after graduation (Cornell etc..), so research and internships are important as well.

I major in economics, so I have no idea about engineering schools, but I think Mich state offers a better research program. That's just my opinion. What do you guys think? Is it worth the $48k difference? (BTW, they're really rich, and can afford to pay for both these universities, but if it does not make a huge difference, $48k is a large amount to pay for). Feel free to comment ppl, she really needs answers.

They are not far off from each other in research funding. http://mup.asu.edu/research2011.pdf</a> I would attend the less expensive or the one with the better location.

Does your coz have a preference between the two schools (intangibles)?

Iowa. That $48k saved will pay for a good chunk of an MS Eng program. If she does well at Iowa, she can get into the grad program that she wants. Grad admissions will not be significantly worse from Iowa than from Michigan State.
