Decision to not send AP Scores

I am applying as a computer engineering major and chose to not send my AP Scores because I received a 3 on both the Physics 1 and Computer Science AP Tests. I received 5s on AP Language, Microeconomics, and US History as well but I omitted those from application because I felt sending AP Scores is all or nothing. Was this the correct choice? My poorer AP tests are on main topics of what I want to major in

@lonewanderer The Common App asks for the scores to be self reported. You do not have to send in any scores until you are accepted and if you want credit for these scores. Having said that, here is the issue. If the admission folks see that you took AP classes, they would expect to see that you took the AP exam. Omitting all of them will look worse or suspicious in my opinion. I think you should self report all of your scores. The 3s are passing and the 5s are excellent. Admission sometimes also want to see if you are getting As in those classes, but not doing well on the exams…well maybe the class grades are inflated…but in your case, I would self report ALL of them on the common app. Curious what others believe.

Thank you so much for your reply. Since my EA apps are already submitted should I attach a PDF of my score report through the “additional documents” feature of say like northeastern’s application portal and others.

@lonewanderer i would ask your high school counselor the best way to do this.

Ok thank you again hopefully I am not completely screwed over by this. I made another thread asking about my chances to help ease my mind I am such a stressed out person lmao.

@lonewanderer I agree with the above but I’m not sure you have to panic. My S took APs (9) and didn’t get anything less than a 3 but decided not to self report. He did not send any AP scores until after he was accepted and wanted to get college credit. Didn’t seem to change his admissions chances. He was accepted to all the colleges he applied to except 2 reaches and received a ton of merit aid from several. He had a solid application so maybe that had something to do with it too. Not sure.

There are many reasons students choose not to take AP exams so I don’t think they make that assumption unless they see you took some but not all.

While true, there are few reasons why an applicant would choose to take none. If it’s an affordability issue, the AO would see that from the rest of the application.

As others have said, it will probably make no difference in the admissions decisions, except perhaps for some high reach schools. If the OP is concerned, s/he can just email an update.

I would be more concerned aboit the actual scores and your chance of success in the major. Do you have a reason to think you will do much better in college?

Personally, I would not worry about the score in AP Physics 1. 60% of the testers failed; the OP at least passed.

Wow. I din’t realize it was that low.

Last year at our high school 46 of the 50 kids who took AP Comp Sci got a 4 or 5. Not sure of our physics results.

Yeah for Physics I didnt feel as bad because the pass rate is insanely low but I really screwed up for my comp sci test sophomore year.

Im definitely overthinking but AP scores in reality are not a huge factor correct. A 3 on the comp sci test wont kill my chances

I don’t think so. It seems like you took that test sophomore year. They will see that.
