Decisions about Florida Schools

Trying to make decisions are really struggling on what to do. Plan to major in communications/broadcasting. I applied and got into some good private schools options (Hofstra, Ithaca) but financial aid has not worked out as I had hoped and I am going to have to go with a Florida in state. I have weak test scores and not a great GPA (1120/3.7 weighted).

I got into FAU, UNF, and FGCU- still waiting on USF but I know that is a long shot. I visited FAU earlier this week and didn’t like it. It’s off my list. I really like UNF - beautiful campus, good area and I had a great campus visit. My concern is that because it is a small school (no football) I won’t get the true college experience.

In a perfect world, I would go to FSU but I know I would not get in. Someone has mentioned going to TCC and doing their program with 2 years at a TCC and then transferring to FSU. Anyone know anything on this? is it ridiculous to consider a community college when I do have a 4 year option? Would be interested in anyone has experience the TCC to FSU or UNF.

If you want a four year experience then yea it’s ridiculous to go to a cc if you have a viable four year option that is affordable.

Football alone…5-6 games a year…doesn’t make a college experience. You can root for UF instead.

If you like UNF minus football then go there.

In that industry where you go matters little. It’s a very tough field and the make on the diploma is near meaningless. Make sure you get on college radio. Get internships at the local Jax stations.

Other options… but not cheap with those grades. Alabama and Arizona. Both solid for broadcasting as is Hofstra.

Good luck.

Spending four years at the same university compared to transferring from community college after two years is a different experience. As you mention wanting a “true college experience” you’re more likely to get that at a 4-year institution than at a 2-year one.

I’m not very familiar with the Florida publics, but I am assuming that all of these are residential campuses (rather than commuter campuses). If that is indeed the case, go to the one where you think you will be happiest. Have you visited Florida Gulf Coast? I would check it out just as you did UNF and FAU. Then choose between UNF and FGCU. If you get into USF then feel free to throw that one into the mix.

I don’t think you have a bad choice here. Look at what the curriculum requirements will be, what the classes are like, the feel of the campus and student body, if there are extracurriculars that are calling your name, etc, and then go where you feel the best fit.

Best of luck to you! :four_leaf_clover:

FAU is the only one that you have been accepted to with a Football Program and a nice on campus stadium
What didn’t you like about FAU?

FGCU is a very nice campus as well. No football but basketball, not good now but made the tournament a few times over the last decade

You could go to one of the community colleges next to the big campuses (like Santa Fe at UF or Valentia at UCF). Some of the housing is shared, and the CC students have some access to the university facilities. You’d get the feel of 4 years in the same place.

But UNF is a nice school too. The sports facilities are pretty nice.

Did you look at UCF and FIU?
