We also received the e-mail and are not in any of those categories. I think it was intended to keep UD fresh in the minds of the applicants while they wait.

Also OOS and S got the same email. Seems likely that its to keep U Del in minds especially when the notifications are comparatively late and decisions may be made before ever having the official U Del decision. IMO

Niece got the same email today, OOS. I’m sure it’s just to keep UDel fresh in their minds. However they wouldn’t need to do this if they send out acceptances at the same time as others.

my twins are juniors and 3 years ago they did not receive an email near the time decisions were being made, however my daughter who is a HS senior received one this week. Must be something new that Delaware is doing in order to keep the school fresh in everyone’s mind.

My freshman DS did not receive that e-mail, but on Feb 22 last year did receive an e-mail saying that the admissions committee had completed its preliminary review and would like to consider him for an academic scholarship. They requested an e-mail back asking for any updated info or awards since the application was submitted.

They said they could not guarantee a scholarship, but that he was being considered. They listed several categories of scholarships as well as academic scholarships. Fortunately, he did receive 2 scholarships.

For applicants who received this apparent “new” UD email. Did everyone’s email include the “can’t wait to share good news soon” phrase as noted in a previouis post? If so what was the context within which the phrase was included (i.e. what were the words prior to the phrase and/or after it)? Also are there applicants out there who have not as yet received this email?

Subject line: Name, You’ll be hearing from us soon!

As you watch your mail for college news, we want you to know how much we’ve been thinking about you this winter. In fact, we’re very close to making our final decisions.

2013 has been an exciting year for UD. We beamed with pride when alumnus Joe Biden was sworn in for his second term as U.S. VP and we cheered on UD’s own Joe Flacco to Super Bowl victory. All the while, we’re celebrating your victories courtesy of your essays and letters of recommendation. We’re proud of what you have accomplished and we are honored that you have chosen to share your application, as well as your aspirations, with us.

We hope to share very good news with you in March. Our goal in the coming weeks is to finish shaping a Fall 2013 Class full of unique and capable students, like you.

Thank you for your patience. Should you have questions now or in the coming weeks, do not hesitate to contact us. We’re available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. via instant chat at [University of Delaware Undergraduate Admissions](Undergraduate Admissions | University of Delaware), on the phone at (302) 831-8123, or admissions@udel.edu.

Thanks Aunto5 for the clarification. I guess the key words here are “We hope to share”. So the email does not appear to have any predictive value for applicants (if it was sent to all applicants). So are there any applicants out there who have not as yet received this email?

after reading this line, “Our goal in the coming weeks is to finish shaping a Fall 2013 Class full of unique and capable students, like you”, I hope they don’t reject her.

My son hasn’t gotten an email, good news or otherwise from UDel recently, although his SAT and GPA are above average for UDel and he expects to be admitted. We did get the parent viewbook last week.

I do not have the full email but the one line was a little different. It said, “can’t wait to share good news soon”. My son thinks it is a “likely letter” and that some schools have started doing that.

This sounds very intriguing to me. It sounds like UD is sending out emails to some applicants with different content. It does appear that at least one applicant has gotten an email that seems to “infer” that an applicant will be accepted while a number of others have gotten a much more general letter without a similar “inference”. And at least one applicant (up to this point) has not received any email at all (but reports above average UD stats). It appears that the next 3-4 weeks before OOS decisions are announced is going to be a little more stressful/chaotic than usual (if that is possible).

Today DD rec’d exact same email as Aunto5. This follows an invite last week to apply to the honors program to which D did apply and was positively acknowledged. I agree with Aunto5 in that I also took it to sound like good news…although I could be mistaken. But I can’t imagine being invited to apply to honors program then denied from the university. Good luck to all!!

My son that got that email also applied to the homors program.

Just to add to that, my niece did not apply to honors

So it appears that there may be different emails/communications depending on whether an applicant appled to the Honors Program or not (at least for those who have received something up to this point).

I don’t remember if S applied to honors or not (he was above average for the school but not for the honors program). He has gotten other emails from UDel, so they have his correct email, and he’s been accepted at similar schools with the Common App so I don’t think he had a bad recommendation or anything…just no email.

IMHO UD has begun to send the email (As noted by Aunto5 in post #27) to students that they have already made a final decision to accept. In my multiple years of association with UD I have always found UD to be very ethical in its interactions with applicants, students, and parents. To send such an email to applicants at this point in the application process stating that they are looking for a “Class full of unique and capable students, like you” and then not accept the person would be highly out of character for UD. Obviously I could be wrong-but I would be very shocked and “saddened” if I was. I think we will see a steady stream of this (or similar) emails being sent out over the next few weeks as UD makes further definitive decisions on acceptances prior to the official notification date. So if you haven’t gotten one yet I certainly would not make the assumption at all that you were rejected. Perhaps they will also not notify all accepted applicants by this process (maybe its a beta trial) and some, maybe many, accepted students will still have to wait for the notification announcements in March. It looks like they just started to do this yesterday. I suspect this is something the new Director of Admissions has implemented in order to at least partially address the concerns of applicants/parents related to the rather late notification time frame that UD has had. Perhaps it will change even further in future years. Good luck to everyone.

I know a scholarship athlete OOS that did not get his admission notice until March 15 last year. You would think he would have been one of the first to find out with a scholarship, so be patient.

KNow of one high ACT(33) a friend of my daughters, rank #5 in class, all AP’s. no email, nor distinguished scholar invite either. Applied to honor’s program

I’m kind of surprised he did not get scholar invite.
