I got an email tonight from Northeastern to check my application status for a decision. Turns out that I got into the Engineering School, and they gave me the NE Excellence Scholarship.
Unfortunately, the letter didnt mention anything about admission to the honors college. So I a couple of questions…
Why did I get a decision so early?
Does the absence of a notification about the Honors Program mean that I didn’t get in? If so, why would they give me a scholarship? Is it possible that they are waiting to make all the admissions decision before filling the honors college?
I’m not sure about your honors program question but I just got my decision now too and I think a lot of people also did… I think they might be mostly all out already, although it seems pretty quick.
Top RD applicants are usually admitted earlier (last year, my daughter’s letter was dated 2/13/14). It was a nice surprise to hear early! She was admitted into honors, and is attending now and loves it
How tough is it to get into the University Scholars program? I’d like to think I was more than able to be selected to that… not to sound ungrateful but I was a tad disappointed with just the University Honors acceptance.
ADMITTED! and feeling so good. I hadn’t been expecting a decision so soon either. My school hasn’t even sent out midyear grades yet. Not honors either, but alas, 30k in scholarships a year will do!
I’m guessing that most if not all EA deferred applicants will hear back with the main group of results in March.
I wouldn’t be too concerned if you did not get into Honors. Personally, it wasn’t make-or-break for my experience at Northeastern. Plus, if you do well once you start, you can apply to join Honors after your first semester or year.
Son in, national hispanic recognition scholarship, $30k/yr. not invited to honors however. 2210 SAT, 750 cr, 750 math, 93.5 gpa W, don’t have unweighted. Very excited and lots of decisions to make. Just wondering how much of a disadvantage not being in honors is, if any?
@Hawkface the National Hispanic one. I do think it’s a bit weird how they give so much for that, and for being in the top 25% of their admitted students the scholarships only go up to 25k.
I was accepted today after being deferred EA! Super excited and was not expecting the decision so soon. I submit a much higher act score (34) after being deferred which may have helped my chances
@carlymack I was deffered EA and just received my acceptance letter. People are saying that they let top applicants know early but I’m not really sure why they didn’t let me in EA if that was the case. Either way I’m very happy!
