accepted from Florida!!

waitlisted emory, accepted oxford

Waitlisted from florida.

Oh well, not the worst thing in the world.

YES I got accepted to both oxford and Emory!!!
So happy!!!

Waitlisted, oh well, I never really cared too much for Emory anyway.

^…umm that’s partly why you didn’t get in. Emory really cares about demonstrated interest. So it worked out for both you and Emory.

Anyways, those who are going to Emory can join the facebook group: Emory University Class of 2014

My sons financial aid package for Oxford is great. Glad they posted financial aid today!

To those who were accepted/rejected/waitlisted , please (for the sake of future applicants) post your stats in the thread “Official Decisions Thread (please include stats)”

alam1- I said that in order to soften the huge blow being waitlisted was to my ego.

I figured. I am sorry for your situation. If you truly care about Emory, remember that around 20% of the people who accepted a place on Emory’s waitlist eventually got in. That’s a pretty good number. You may still get in, assuming you are actually interested in coming.

accepted to both Emory College and Oxford but still USC ftw

I think I’ll see where else I get accepted, then try and figure out if I want to stay on the emory waitlist.

If our family has demonstrated financial aid need & submitted all the paperwork in a timely manner, is there still a possibility of an Oxford College Grant if it’s not listed in our financial aid award package? Anyone know about this?

accepted yey

MarzenAmber…are you saying you already have you financial aid package and OPUS doesn’t show that you still have requirements that are not met? Does it show work study, pell, scholarships in your package?

heltonmom: no outstanding requirements. double-checked the to-do list. opus only shows student loan @ 5,000 and work-study @ 2,000.

Did you qualify for pell or have any outside scholarships?

heltonmom - No, we don’t qualify for a Pell, but we do fall in the income bracket outlined in the financial aid information for those families eligible to receive the Oxford College Grant. No to the outside scholarships as well (at least none awarded yet). We’re from FL - not much available scholarship-wise out of state.

Edit: Ditto for the Emory Advantage Grant

I would contact your financial aid advisor on Monday. I am not sure about the grants and the Emory loan replacement program but I think that just because you qualify doesn’t always mean you get it. That has been our experience with some other colleges. I don’t think income is the only thing they base it on but not sure. Give them a call on Monday. I know that even though OPUS showed that all requirements were met for my son we later found out that some of his items were lost and I had to resend them. I would not have known this if I had not emailed them about an outside scholarship he received. My sons package had everything listed, institutional grants, federal grants, scholarships, work study. We are in state so he will also receive Hope Scholarship and was also an Oxford Scholar finalist and received a scholarship from that. It won’t hurt to give them a call and ask about it. They have been very helpful to us.

heltonmom: Will do. Thanks for the advice.
