Citoyenne! I am SO happy for you!

An hour and ten minutes left until I can check online.

But…I have class in 40 minutes…so I won’t be able to check until 3:45.

Citoyenne! Have you made a decision? Did you get MHC notification? I’m watiting for MHC and Bryn Mawr

Thank you, MiChiamanoMimi! I hope you receive good news today as well. :)

I did get my MHC notification, vannecriss; I was accepted. You should hear from them soon, right? I’m still waiting on a few other schools as well, but Smith is my top choice so…barring something truly disastrous in the financial aid department, I believe that’s where I’ll be next year. What’s your top choice?

^ Congrats to everyone who got in! :)

I didn’t get in. I’m bawling right now because my only other choice is somewhere where I did NOT want to end up.

Congrats to everyone!

Aw, Mimi. I’m sorry.

Oh, Mimi, I was so hoping you’d get in. Your enthusiasm for Smith was contagious, and you seem like someone I’d have liked to have met on campus. :(

I am so, so sorry, Mimi! hugs I thought for sure you’d be in.

Thank you all for your commiseration. It means a lot to me.
I am thinking about writing admissions a letter asking about how I might be able to improve my application for next year. Yes…I’m so stuck on Smith that I’m planning to reapply…as long as they don’t look down upon that. ;)

^ Good luck, Mimi. :)

Citoyenne I don’t know anymore! I thought I wasn’t gonna get accepted to Smith! Therefore, My first choice was Bryn Mawr, but I won’t have the decision until mid May… I also have to wait from MHC… Everything depends on my financial aid package because I am an international student, and it’s harder to get scholarships… I let you know…!!! Good Luck!

Mimi, I am so very, very sorry to hear the bad news. You have been so upbeat and determined. I just glanced through some of your responses on past threads to understand your circumstances a bit better before I responded. I think your plan to contact admissions to ask how you can improve your chances is a good one. Perhaps writing them and then following up with a frank phone conversation would be a good strategy. I admire your determination, but what is unclear is how much you’d have to improve your application. I just don’t know how realistic your dream of Smith is.

Maybe I missed something, but I didn’t see any stats or information in your posts that would indicate how prepared you are for Smith. I know that Adas have special, more complex situations that have to be taken into account so stats are absolutely not the whole picture, but I’m sure you have some kind of academic record that shows what you’ve accomplished so far.

If, to improve your application, it’s just showing additional excellent and consistent effort in your classes at the community college (A’s?), that’s one thing to accomplish, but if your current community college course grades aren’t already stellar, Smith is going to be concerned about your ability to handle the strenuous academics. That’s where the frank conversation with the regional admissions rep, or if there’s an Ada rep, comes in.

I saw from your earlier posts that you’ve always loved Smith. What is it that drew you to the school in the first place? I don’t think Smith would look down on your re-applying next year, it shows tenacity, but I do think you need to work with Smith to create and implement a realistic plan that puts you in a better position for re-applying next time. I’m afraid I’m sounding discouraging; I don’t mean to. I just want you to make tangible progress towards your goals. So go for it! And let us know what happens.

Hey,
This is kind of long…but here goes…
I read a book called “The Circle” or “The Clique” (I don’t remember the title, and I don’t remember the author’s name) about a group of women who attended Vassar or Radcliffe in the 30’s, over the summer after my 8th grade year.

. I became curious about Women’s Colleges and asked my High School Guidance Counselor when I began HS that fall about them. She gave me information on the Seven Sisters, and I looked up information on each one. When I read that Smith basically let you pick your major, then take whichever courses suited your fancy as well as having Friday Tea and other traditions, houses instead of dorms and in a small city that was welcoming and friendly I was in awe.

I was always the girl who was obsessed with hope chests and afternoon tea, and gracious houses surrounded with greenery…my Mom always said that I should have been born fifty years before I was. As well as having so many interests and wanting to know everything and asking all the questions that I could about everything. I was the girl that everyone called brilliant. I wanted to attend the “best” college for me, and Smith was the ticket!

Of course, my life at that time was falling apart (not going into that here) and the only thing other than my voracious habit of reading book after book
that kept me going through that time was my dream of going to Smith. At that time, I wanted to double major in Dance and Chemistry and become an Oncologist. I was told that Smith would be the best fit of the “Seven Sisters” for me.

So, eleven years after that first introduction to Smith…its still held my interest like a magnet. Kind of like the “Naturewood” by Pfaltzgraff Stoneware that came out around that time and that I swore would end up on my wedding registry…and that everyone said that I’d have long forgotten about when the time came. I never forgot about that
either, and we recieved a set as a wedding present. :)

I’ll PM you my Stats Carolyn. My academic situation, as you’ve probably read is extremely different than most and perhaps (hate to admit it) there might be more than just Smith out there for me. :)

Mimi, what a beautifully expressed, heartfelt testimonial to Smith! I’m cheering for you and I look forward to your PM.

oh wow, I think Smithie parents, are by far the most supportive and helpful on this forum.

@ mimi, you are my hero(ine), you seem like a very passionate and determined individual, any college would be lucky to have you!

Jamapelle, we are supportive because we are thrilled to see how Smith has provided numerous opportunities for our daughters to truly blossom and we want the same for others! :)
