Okay so all my decision letters have come in and now I must decide!

It's such a problem because there's a problem with each one.

I was accepted to:
University of Delaware (state school) - $19,000 a year
LaSalle University - $19,000 (got scholarship money)
Saint Joseph's University - $40,000 a year
Roanoke College - $33,000 a year
University of Hartford - $35,000 a year

but then...
University of South Carolina - accepted to spring semester
Virginia Tech - waitlisted

I like UD and it's probably the best academically of my options, (I'll be majoring in Business, Marketing) but it's my state school and I would like to leave the state. I like USC but I don't know what I should do. I could go to UD for fall semester then go to USC or i could save money by going to community college for fall semester than USC. I know that Virginia Tech is most likely no longer an option because the chances of getting off waitlist are slim.

Help! What do I choose?

I feel like no one in my family wants me to go to UD because it's so typical because it's my state school and they feel like it's not a great school? But it really is!

I would definitely go for University of Delaware. It’s the most prestigious of the schools you’ve applied to. Lots of kids I know from my state would be thrilled to go there. Also, if you really want to, you can go pick a city and live there during the summers. You have your whole life to live in any state you want. But there are great reasons to stay in state for your college education when it can save you money.

I know how painful it is to go to a state university. I live next door in Maryland and my area sends SO MANY students to Salisbury, Frostburg, Towson, and even College Park. The idea of going to College Park makes me sick. But College Park and the U of D are such good schools - a lot of kids from OUT of state want to go there. I really understand. You could also transfer out - U of D is a great school to transfer out of. Live in the dorms and keep your residency quiet if you want. You can have a really great time. How close are you to Newark?

Yes, transfer is always an option. I know alot of in-state kids who started at UD and planned to transfer, but ended up staying because they loved it! So maybe that will happen to me! I’m 7 minutes away from Newark! Haha!

I’d go with Delaware

Delaware is the best school on the list and you can’t beat the price. Forget the state school stigma…unless you can articulate something else or find a program or attraction at the others that is going to be worth the extra money.

Delware. Good university in a great campus at a good price.

Save your money for graduate school or for buying a house. UD is a great option. You’re too close to recognize it.
