Decisions, Decisions...

I cannot decide whether to attend NYU or the College of William & Mary. The fact that they're at completely opposite ends of the spectrum only makes it that much harder to choose between the two! Large private vs small public. NYC vs Colonial Williamsburg. No campus vs beautiful campus. Politically left-leaning vs politically right-leaning, etc. At times I can better picture myself at one, but at others I see myself fitting in better at the other. They each appeal to a different side of me.

I'm undecided about a major, so the overall college "experience" is the biggest factor right now. In terms of the "experience," which would you guys choose? Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated.

Nyu!.............

NYU

too many kids i know go to W&M... (public, in-state...)

Where do you picture yourself working after school?

Career-wise, I have no idea...

if you dont know what you wanna do, you may wanna figure it out some place other than nyu/nyc

Nyu.......

scrapnel, why do you say that?

Well, first thing that comes to mind is the money (although I don't know how much William and Mary costs. If it's comparable, then obviously that's not a consideration either way).

The OP said that the college experience is more what he/she is cconcerned about right now, and NYU clearly is known for not having a traditional college "feel."

I guess the main reason I said that NYU may not be good for people who don't know what they want to do is because I'd just think that it's easy to get lost and sidetracked in the vastness of New York City (unless you were from the area). Also, it's harder to switch between schools at NYU once you do decide what you want to pursue (i.e. to Stern or Tisch). Now, if you have somewhat of an idea of what you want to do, like if you know you want to be in business, or you know you want to do something with politics, or with writing, or liberal arts, and you're just trying to narrow it down, then by all means, NYU would probably be a great place to do that since there aren't as many required courses as other colleges from what I hear. But the OP seems like he/she has no idea at all where they see themselves in the future so personally I would just think that NYU might not be the best choice.

But that's just my opinion =)

I agree with scrapnel, w/m would be a much better choice.
I personally know a lot of ppl at NYU and W/M, and people from w/m say they absolutely love there, whereas NYU people often say that although they like it, they wouldve liked smaller school much better(especially w/beautiful campus)
I don't know how big ur high school is, but most people at small schools love their schools whereas many people at big schools think it's just okay.
Also, it's hard to switch shools at NYU like scrapnel said. Even when people know what they wanna do in college, they most likely change. Now, if you don't really know what you wanna do, go to W/M and taste every bit of various areas, then choose your school in W/M.(easier to switch)

could u let us know when u decide where to go? thanks!

for the price tag, and all things considered:

if you dont love NYU, youre probably never going to love NYU. check both schools out, see which one feels better. both are stellar, both have a high degree of renown. visiting both will give you a better idea.

Nyu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate the help. After reading scrapnel, etnad, and matt1288's responses, I can definitely see how W&M might be a better fit for me. Unfortunately, I do not have a chance to visit either of the schools before May 1. But I did visit NYU a couple of years ago and thought it was a really cool place.

Price isn't a big issue b/c the scholarship and work-study money NYU offered me makes the price comparable to W&M.

every single person i know who goes to william and mary hates it. just a heads up, for what it's worth.

Really? According to etnad, "people from w/m say they absolutely love there"

Interesting.

i guess it toally varies..
but one thing i know for sure is that not many people hate their own colleges
