I need help deciding if LMU is the right choice for me.. I am debating between there and Cal Lutheran University.

I live in Moorpark, California (next to thousand oaks), and I am concerned about the distance that LMU will be from my home. I am extremely close with my family and boyfriend who will be staying in Moorpark. I have visited both schools and like them both as well, but I know that LMU is a little bit more superior in academics than CLU is. Should this be my deciding factor? Also, I have nearly a full ride at CLU, whereas at LMU I did not recieve any fin. aid, in the form of scholarship or loans. LMU is verrry expensive, so is it worth it?

I am a good student, so where ever I end up I will recieve a good education, but am I taking the easy way out by going to CLU?

let me hear some of your thoughts. I am trying to get some unbiased advice from people who don't know me personally because those who do are giving me mixed answers.

thanks so much!

You can get a good education wherever you go. Your motivation is the deciding factor. You put the work in, and good things happen.

Not something you want to hear, but, you should never decide a college choice based on boyfriends or girlfriends. It may work out with that person, but make sure you have gone to the right school in spite of the fact that you have this relationship. Otherwise, later on, you might regret it. Very few of us stay in long term relationships developed in high school. There are exceptions, but overall, people change. They also change when they attend college.

Cal Lutheran is a good school. So is LMU. You also shouldn't choose a college based on perceptions or rankings. Where do you feel most comfortable? Can you afford LMU? You said you had a nice fin aid package with CLU.

Being close to your family is awesome - but Moorpark to LMU is not THAT far away. True, much closer to CLU. You will surprised at how busy you are, and even if you went to CLU, you may not have time to get home as much as you thought you would.

Think long and hard about it. Have you visited both schools?

Good luck making your final choice!

Thanks for the advice!
My parents can afford LMU, but it would be a strech, especially since I have three siblings all bound for college in the near future.
Also, I am pretty much decided on CLU because I know that I will be attending graduate school, so it makes sense for me to take the less expensive undergraduate education.
I think I just feel more comfortable with this decision right now, and if things change, I can always transfer.
I'm also still waiting on an answer from Pepperdine.. I was waitlisted and this was my top choice. I find it strange that I got into LMU but not there. I won't hear until at least June 1st.

I talked for a while with my mom this morning and she agrees that paying that much money for LMU probably isnt worth it. She knows that it is a fabulous school, but she is also extremely uneasy about the area surrounding the school.

And I know that I shouldn't make decisions based on a boyfriend.. but I honestly feel I would be more comfortable at CLU over LMU regardless of whether or not I would have a boyfriend.

Chels,

Congratulations on your decision - it certainly sounds like you have figured it out! Wishing you the best at CLU!
