My son submitted his application to U of Minnesota - Twin Cities in mid/late August. He knows of two other students at his high school that have received responses from Minnesota so far. Both of these students submitted their applications around the same time or slightly before my son did. They both received their responses on Sunday afternoons (10/18 and 10/25). I also see on the application tracker that there is a note that says that the App Tracker will be down every Sunday from 6am to noon for scheduled maintenance (perhaps that’s the time that they use to update applications where decisions have been made). So, we are starting to wonder if they only update the application tracker status on Sundays (and if there really is no need to check it during the rest of the week). Has anyone else noticed this?
@BrewCrew82 it does not seem unlikely. I got accepted to CLA, but I don’t know if it updated my tracker on Sunday because I didn’t check from a Friday to that Monday. It quite possibly could’ve been released that Sunday
I think the 2 students that got responses also got emails on Sundays. Not sure about that though. I’m assuming you did not get an email on a Sunday with the response. If that’s the case, then maybe our theory regarding Sundays is wrong and it’s just a coincidence that those two students both got replies on Sundays. However, if our theory is true, I’m curious as to why they would not just make that public knowledge so that applicants know that they only need to check on the status of their applications on Sundays?
My son applied in August and is waiting for a response. His stats are not top notch like those who have been accepted so far as a result I’m not surprised that no decision has been made. However, it seems like UMTC could come up with a more efficient system - for bubble candidates make a deferral decision now and revisit in February.
@WistfulThinking My daughter may be in the same boat. She applied in early September to CFANS but the school just got her transcript in the last few days. Her ACT is competitive (30), but her GPA may be too low (3.5) and she doesn’t have a class rank. I feel like it could be awhile until she hears anything - the system seems kind of unpredictable for lower stats applicants.
Should have looked at the “Admitted Students” thread before I posted this new thread. Looks like our “Sunday’s only” theory is wrong. My son is probably in the same boat as yours “WistfulThinking”. Compared to those who have been accepted, my son’s stats are not that great. Parchment.com gives him an 87% chance of getting in based on his stats, but I have a hard time believing that’s accurate. He got a lot of extra curricular items (3 years Varsity in Baseball, 3 years on the golf team, took 5th in state in FBLA competition and is the President of that club at his HS, and he took 6 AP classes. However, not sure if all of that will be enough to overcome his relativley low GPA and class rank.
@brewcrew82 First off - were you a big fan of the the brewers with Yount, Molitor, Thomas, etc. that played the Cards in the series?
You might be right about the Sunday thing. Both of my kids had letters dated on Monday, 10/12 and 10/19, saying they were admitted to CSE. The hard letters came about two weeks after tracker said they were accepted.
My son applied to UMN in July. He found out on a Friday night (10/9) at 6:45 PM when the application status area was updated with a paragraph stating that he was admitted. This was after checking at 5:00 PM. I would check daily around 7:00 PM as they probably update their responses at the end of a work day. But you could have your child call admissions to see if there are any decisions. Also we are OOS so I believe they were notified a bit earlier then in state.
@pacesaces Can you share your his stats and the college he got into please?
