Fantastic Financial Aid package.......well played Colgate.

i hate to tell you guys this and I am praying i am wrong, but for those of us who haven't got anything yet, we are most likely (95%) rejected. I am saying this because I have evidence.

What is your evidence?? My s was rejected today. Weird becasue he is in the top 10% and his SAT and act were ok- on the lower end of Colgates standards-has great extra cirrics and clubs sports ect....Has held a job down since he was 15 as a karate instructor, Black belt in karate. The resume is there. We also havesome very strong alumn connections to Colgate that go back 3 generations. Alot of money they put into an endowment fund. Wasn't even looking for money, kinda a pinch in the ass. All the other schools he was accepted to made comments on his essay . I Know his teacher recs were awesome. He did struggle with AP calc this semester and only pulled a C+ Which was his only C in high school history!! Maybe that is why. He is taking all Aps this year and did some last year too??? I am dubfounded really. His college advisor will be too?? Oh well I am done venting He will be fine as he has other choices but they are all saftey schools. VEry strange that alot of kids had trouble even getting inot their 50/50 schools?? Competition is touch and kids are applying to more than 3-4 schools now. making the pools larger and much more copmpetitive. It is a different world, I hope you ahve better news than we did. Let me know if you have any input!! Thanks again for letting me vent!!! See yah

I can still apply for aid?!
that would be great! but my need is not that enormous... so i do not know if they would let me.

(My efc is 12k)

I am so sorry about your son kmh. College decisions seem to be such a gamble. I'm sure that wherever he ends up will make him very happy. 'Always look on the bright side of life...'

Thanks Rachel212 and congrats on Colgate- it is a wonderful school with great kids!! You will love it!!!! :) Good luck on your aid too!!! You still have time!!! I was hoping my s decisions was an april fools joke!!!! HEE HEE

Rejected.

Wow, tough year for college apps. I had hopes, but it is not to be. Now down to to a choice between Villanova and U Richmond. Good schools, but I had wished for something in the elite league. Good luck to you all!

P.S. I think the College Board stats will have to be adjusted BIG TIME next year. Their SAT ranges seem to be way off the mark. I was at the high end of many schools but got waitlisted or rejected from many. I think it depends on the demographics they are trying to attract. More accurate to go with the acceptance rate.

I was waitlisted...so we'll see I guess. I really hope I get in....does anyone know how many wl's there have been this year?

About what kmh said, I think the number of colleges that some people apply to is quite ridiculous. My high school really discourages applying to more than 7 at the most. I'm sorry to hear about your s's rejection...I've had a few of them too. I'm sure he'll do well wherever he goes.

I think you are onto something. What about the number of kids that apply to a dozen or more schools compared to the norm of 4-6. Especially the competitivie schools. It seems to be that applications are up across the board. You wonder if the waitlisted kids may have a better chance now???

KMH,

Doubt it was the calc. grade, as my son had a klunker AP Physics grade and still got in. I'd venture it was more the SAT's. Maybe some great cosmic mystery?

My S got waitlisted from a school he really should have gotten in, or at least if the other 2 kids from his high school got in he definitely should have gotten in. I mean, it wasn't an Ivy and he got in 2 Ivies. These things are really fluky sometimes. The teacher who wrote his rec. is even an alumni interviewer for that school. She felt pretty bad about it.

Well I think sometimes it is pretty random-their is no formula and it probably depends on who first looks at the application. I guess you have to catch that certain persons attention and if you don' stand out for whatever reason you go in a certain pile ??? My sons acceptances were all across the board too. It really doesn't make any sense. At least he got into 5 of the 8 he applied to. Better than most One kid at his school didn't get into any of his schools. Smart kid too:( Only applied to 4 schools and now is looking into a school that will take rolling decisions.I guess it isn't the end of the world. Funny thing my kid is fine and very happy with his choices.I was more of a wreck but now that I know he is OK I am too!!!

My D was accepted to colgate with competitive stats, but not out of this world. What I think really helped her was her really unique, funny essay which really showed the admission people she was special. The dean even comminted specifically about the content of her essay on her acceptance letter.

She has also received acceptances from Bucknell, Holy Cross, Wakeforest & TCNJ. Still waiting to hear from Notre Dame. Tough choice.

Good luck everyone!!!!

hey..i was just hopping through some of the Colgate posts and i was like..wow your D applied to all of the schools that i will hopefully be applying to in Sept (im a junior)...CONGRATSSS i love colgate too

I'm going to the April Visit Days next week [11-12].

I'm gonna call the fin aid office tomorrow, and my dad will go talk to them when we go up if there is anything we can do.

Haha I just found out I've been accepted, apparently this came on friday but I was away at a New England regional Key Club Convention. I have 2130 SATs and good SAT IIs with a 3.7 GPA, upward trend, from a very competitive public school in Connecticut with mostly honors and AP classes. Now it's between Colgate, Macalester, Michigan Honors, and Lehigh.....wow how am I going to decide.

YAY SHORTSTOP! Congrats!
