What kind of mail is it? Did it come in big envelope? I know, i am a little obessive now.

It's a big (letter paper-sized), white envelope. My name/address was on a pretty big label on the lower-right quarter of the envelope.

I just got my acceptance too! It comes in a big white envelope, and inside is a nice blue folder with a gold seal.

Accepted! Very, very happy here!

Congrats to you (or your D)!! :D :D

I received my acceptance today too (I live in Vermont)!

Very happy because it's the first news I've heard from any college (believe it or not), be it positive or negative.

I was waitlisted. Dont think im going to accept a spot, seems like there is very little chance to get off.

accepted today too... prettty exciting!

Did Carleton send out all the decisions at the same time, acceptances as well as rejections?

Waitlisted.

Apparently they were "very favorably impressed" by my "fine academic qualifications and many personal strengths," and believe I "should not be on a 'Waiting List,' here [Carleton] or anywhere else..." what a load of bull. If they believed that they would have accepted me, along with the 1500 other kids they fed this crap to. Why don't they just reject us, it'd save them the trouble of having to come up with a horse***** letter and us the trouble of having to read it.

Waitlisted also...I am positively crushed, since Carleton was my second choice. :(
I can't believe they waitlist over 1,000 people. What is the point?! It just gets everyone's hopes up for nothing, especially those for whom Carleton was their first choice...a rejection at least is definitive, and doesn't keep you hanging on false hope. After reading the stats about the waitlist here, I feel worse than ever.

I think they waitlist so many because they have to figure only half accept a spot on the list and they want to be able to fill the class no matter what even if 90% of the accepted people go elsewere. I know its bad but it makes sense from a business standpoint.

To everyone who was waitlisted (myself included)--
I totally understand and commiserate with NJPitcher's sentiments, that being waitlisted can actually feel worse than a rejection because, well, a rejection is a clean break, it goes away, but being waitlisted doesn't allow you to totally put the school out of your mind. But remember, there is a reason we were waitlisted and not outright rejected--the college's way of saying you are good, just not quite good enough. It's a consolation prize from their point of view.

The other good thing is, people are applying to more and more colleges (if you look at the how many colleges did you apply to poll, a substantial number of CC kids applied to more than 10!). Now from a statistical standpoint, more people applying to more colleges means that a smaller percentage of admitted students will accept the offer at any one school (I hope I'm making sense here!), and that is a good thing from our point of view.

I got accepted!!!!!!!! :) :) :) Too bad they didn't give me any merit money, so I can't afford it. I'll be happy today, though.

eek! i got it somehow! wow. that blue folder was really pretty too...
