Decline Admission Offer

Hello,

I just wanted to know (and if somebody could provide a link that would be awesome) where I could decline my admissions offer for GA Tech. I have been looking around for the past hour and I cannot find a link or anything.

Thanks in advance.

On Buzzport on the bottom right hand corner there should be something saying “If you have decided to attend another college of university please click here to cancel your application”. Click on “Click Here” and follow from there!

Please decline as soon as possible. There are kids on the waiting list who want to go.

It is past May 1st and you presumably have not paid your admission deposit, so you have already declined admission.

Ok, so by not sending in the admissions deposit, I have already forfeited my admissions offer? Does that mean I don’t have to do anything now or what?

And yes, I know there are people literally “dying/praying” for others to decline admission, so I will try to take care of this as soon as possible. I just want to make sure I do it right. I never imagined people were truly that desperate to get into this school - to the point of asking others to hurry up to decline. As if that is really going to help their chances on the waitlist.

I appreciate the help.

You do not need to do anything.

Alright, thanks InPursuit. I appreciate the info.

If you don’t understand deadlines and consequences for inaction, GT is not the place for you. :-)

The OP wanted to decline admission. He did not miss any deadline, as you are not required to notify a school that you are not attending by some date. In any event, professors here can be surprisingly flexible with deadlines…

GPBurdell32: If sarcasm is all you can contribute, this thread is not the place for you. :-(

On another note, I was thinking about sending an actual letter thanking the school for consideration. Is there a chance the letter might actually be read, or will I just be wasting my time?

Nah, don’t bother with it. I’d say you’d just be wasting your time, especially since its already after May 1st.

Not only is Student10 not intelligent enough to understand deadlines, he/she is stupid enough to go to UF over Georgia Tech. Check US News and World Report, idiot.

scholar: Who said I was going to UF?

There is nothing scholarly about your language by the way.

Can we cut this out, guys?

I think many people are upset about the tone of the initial post. A thread dedicated solely to declining an offer can come across as arrogant, especially to a student that was not out-right accepted.

But that does not excuse attacking the poster or using offensive language. While the tone may be condescending, that does not mean it was the poster’s intent. In addition, nothing is settled by attacking another user on an online message board.

While it is clear that GT has a much higher ranked CompE program and overall engineering program, that does not mean tat a person is “stupid” to attend UF over GT. There are many scenarios where a person would be wise to choose UF over GT. Beyond the obvious issue of finances, consider a student not completely dedicated to engineering, a student that needs to stay geographically close to north central Florida, a student has interest in a research area in which UF is active but GT is not, or a student that is very adverse to attending a university in an urban area (among many other reasons).

BanjoHitter:

Thanks for the post. I apologize if I came across as condescending, that was not my intent. I have seen others ask this in other forums here, and they usually get help with how to decline. In no way did I mean to offend those who have not been accepted.

In fact, I would have loved going to this school, but I simply cannot afford it. And yes, I am attending a school “ranked” way lower, but it is one I can actually afford.

Sorry again, and thanks BanjoHitter for correcting me and the others.

I’m sure it wasn’t meant that way, but you have to be careful with these sorts of comments. If a student was rejected or is on the waitlist and really wants to get in, he/she can be very sensitive, so you have to write a post like this carefully. For example:

Good luck at UF or where ever else you intend to study. I think people get too focused on rankings, especially on CC. While they are a factor, there are other factors equally important in your future success after college. If you’re miserable at a school, even a highly ranked one, you’re not going to succeed at that school. If you’re too deeply in debt at graduation, you’ll likely be forced to make decisions that negatively impact your long-term career success, etc. The best college for you to achieve the maximum amount of long-term success is a personal decision for each person. Sometimes people forget that.

PS. The above well wishes are revoked if you plan to attend FSU. I can’t stand their football team :P

And no, I am not attending FSU, I am actually going to Auburn. While I understand that this school is ranked way below something like Georgia Tech, I will be able to get my undergraduate degree without having to take on loans that I would never be able to repay. Hopefully, this will make graduate school a more feasible opportunity.

I do have a friend going to FSU however, lol. I preferred UF and applied there.

Sorry about that. Tried to cancel post, but not possible. Appreciate the feedback.
