Deep Springs General

How many of you actually visited the Ranch for an interview?
What was your experience?
I’m asking since I couldn’t

Also, I’m nervous as hell. My stats are pretty low so I think I might not make the cut, moreover I did not attend the college for an interview but had instead had it via skype, which I guess I botched it up. (First interview of my life lel, compounded with the broadband of a third world country)

Anyways I’d be interesting if those of you who also got into the second round share stuff about yourselves like your hobbies and interests.

I think only about five did a skype interview. When I went there it was completely covered in snow and I had three layers on to go to sleep. My interview only lasted about 45mins. It didn’t really feel like an interview since I had discussed almost everything during the previous three days. You missed out on meeting Bob the cat. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry too much.

What country? I’m curious since I’m not an american applicant either. Pm me if you want to.

Has anyone else heard anything, official or unofficial? Where we live might affect when each of us hears back…

I love the place, it feels surreal. And that’s the only place I want to go.

I wish there is only 28 days in March.

Vincent Van Gogh was born on March 30th, 1853. I remember seeing copies of his work in the dorm.

My dog turned 15 today

Any word? Are they waiting till the very last day of the month…

Just got rejected

Just got rejected too. My birthday. Radical.

Son waitlisted. Fair outcome in my opinion. Had excellent visit, but from his side (and from what you can tell from spending four days there) the match between him and the school and student body wasn’t as perfect as he thought it would be. School probably felt the same way about him.

Hi! I’m a junior hoping to apply in the coming year. If anyone is still on this thread, could anyone that got accepted this year or past years explain or provide their qualifications for getting into this school? I’m referring to anything that you think got you through the doors, such as high test scores or a great interview. I was also wondering if this college would be ok for someone not as intellectual, but someone seeking a transformative experience. Thank you so much.

Hi Mendacio,

Being admitted, I hope I can explain what helped me through the doors. Of course, it is important to meet the academic requirements of a selective college. Good GPA, course load, and test scores are all important–Deep Springs has some very difficult academics, so they want to make sure you’re up to it.

The two most important things I believe, though, were the essays and the visit. Here’s why: they want to KNOW you! Do not be afraid to strip yourself bare and reveal yourself who you really are–you have 2,500 words to do so in the first round. I would say your job as the applicant it NOT, I repeat NOT to try and convince them you are a good student for DS. You need to show them who you REALLY are and trust them to make the right decision.

The same goes for the visit. They are sizing you up every second and wondering if you are someone they’d envision at the school for the next two years. They know better than you do if you’re right for it I promise.

After all, wouldn’t is suck to get there, stop putting on a show, and really not mesh with the people or the school? They choose the incoming class very carefully–its almost engineered in a sense, so make sure you’re just being almost radically sincere.

On another note, I heard from Apcom that they are most attracted to those for whom DS is not a natural progression from their current state, but rather an intriguing opportunity to grow.

Good luck!
