Deerfield Academy [Deerfield, MA]

bamagirl, think of it as coming to a new school in 1st or 2nd grade, when many kids know each other from kindergarden but bonds between everyone aren’t too strong.

Ccer I would do the same thing. Or I would do two sciences senior year or something. All of the arts stuff sounds like so much fun i don’t know who wouldn’t want to do it! But idk two frees a day sounds pretty cool too.

I was never really a big arts person, not because I don’t like it, more because I suck too much to improve lol.
BTW would you rather have 2 frees at the same time or 1 in the morning 1 in afternoon ephant

1 in the morn one in the afternoon. But that’s cuz I get bored easily. Lol. And I could do morning and afternoon he in each

Grad requirements cannot be taken Pass/Fail. P/F is more of an audit and an extra class, not a full academic subject. Look on DANET for more info.

Wait so then how do you meet your arts requirement unless you drop a class or have an average of over 90 and can take more classes?

could you please reference to where on danet this information is located?

I don’t have a danet so could you just clarify?

Ok. I wil try to explain. DA students generally take 5 classes per term. Those 5 classes are not always Math, Science, English, Language, History. For example, my D (a math science kid) took only two years of history. In place of history she doubled up on math one year and did her philosophy/religion and arts in another year. Other more history oriented kids might choose 4 years of history and drop science, math or language for a year or two to meet requirements or take electives. You have the flexibility to choose.

Grad requirements are on the main deerfield.edu site under In Class. On DANET look under Academics/Sample Four Year Programs.

Also, if your advisor will help clarify.

Thanks 1012mom you really clarified

Oh I just realized how sarcastic I sound in the previous comment.
I’m not being sarcastic. :)

My D will be a freshman there this yr and my son will be playing for next yr. Does DA give preference to siblings?

New Freshmen, What are your first impressions of Deerfield?

Invent…most new students students, aside from internationals and sports kids, dont check in until saturday.

BostonPapa: In 2009, 51% of siblings were admitted vs. 15.66% overall. This was announced at the Fall Parents’ Weekend last year.

So, Koch Industries, led by founder of the John Birch Society, just gave 20 million to Deerfield. I’ve been thinking a lot about the political influence of prep schools and found this provocative. When you look at boarding schools, do you look at who funds them?

Koch gift was many years ago.
