Sorry to go off topic, but what should we wear to the revisit?
I couldn’t find a good representation of dress code anywhere. I’m thinking of wearing like a button down, a j.crew sweater in like a fun color and a pretty casual seersucker-y skirt, but it all depends on weather and stuff.
And not just for revisits, is there something that a lot of people have/wear to school? For example at my school a lot of people wear the like polo/rugby oxford button downs or like tory burch flats… (I really don’t want to sound pretentious, this is what people at my school wear)
I was totally shocked at the complete preppiness and pastely vineyard vines-ness of private school when I started and I was wondering if this holds through high school.

@Alelu I’m a guy and unfortunately can’t help with girls’ dress code. I can only tell you amongst guys at least J. Crew and Vineyard Vines are pretty common. The preppiness certainly carries over to HS - especially at DA.

sorry i have nothing to do with DA
I just wanted to say Vineyard vines is the ****

I love it :)

From the FAQs:

Q: Is there a dress code at Deerfield?
A: Yes, there is. Deerfield students must attend classes, Academy events, occasions designated by the Headmaster and sit-down meals in “class dress.” For boys, class dress means a dress shirt, tie, and sport coat, or a suit and tie. (Boys can wear a turtleneck instead of a shirt and tie.) Class dress for girls means a skirt or dress pants with two visible layers on top, one of which must be a blazer or a sweater. Both boys and girls may wear “walking shorts” when it is warm out, with class dress tops. At times when class dress isn’t required, informal dress in good taste is the norm.

Anticipation is building for the April 1st Second Visit. Your host student has been given your name, hometown, and current school. The temperature is forcasted to be 70 and sunny. Enjoy!

Is that the same person who sent us the postcards? I got a little handwritten postcard from a senior a few days ago.

The host is usually someone in the same grade as you. (Obviously, there are no eighth graders.) Perhaps more importantly, Admissions tries to match you with someone with similar interests, personality, etc. Many hosts are freshmen and sophomores because the majority of new prospective students are entering 9th or 10th grade.

Who’s attending their Second Visit on April 1st?

Good luck, Alelu (and anyone else visiting today)! Please report back as to how your day went.

Oh MY GOODNESSSSS
It was so amazing!
Languages are like my thing and I got to sit in on a French 3h with Ms. Lyons and a Latin 4 with Dr. Buckley and they were both amazing!
Ms. Lyons is the best French teacher I’ve ever met! She’s fun and hilarious and still teaches you so that you learn really easily!

My visit is April 5 to 6. I will be sleeping in the dorm with my host. I’m really excited! So alelu, do u think u will atend DA?

My daughter loved Deerfield but alas, was waitlisted for admission this Fall. She is thinking of applying again for the following year, but I want to encourage her to check out similar schools.

She didn’t like Exeter(rejected) and Andover(also waitlisted) nearly as much. Deerfield just seemed warmer, more “traditional”, more of what she was looking for.

So, what other schools have a similar “feel” to them?

I would suggest Westminster (formal) and Hotchkiss (preppy). SPS also has a non-A/E feel.

@Momb2k: As CKSABS said, Hotchkiss is very similar on paper. They also still maintain a traditional, ‘preppy’ school life. As much as I hate to say it she may want to look at Choate as well. Only because it’s in the same category of schools, not necessarily that close to Hotchkiss/DA. And finally, by that logic Taft would be worth investigating.

“As much as I hate to say it”… Why? Why do you hate to say it? Because of the schools’ rivalry? Or something else? She had originally planned to apply, but I had put the kabosh on that because “it was too far”. I may be more flexible about the distance of the school next year.

most definitely the rivalry i know kids who wont talk to each other cause they go to DA or CRH

yeaa I was to CRH…They all hated DA! Even the headmaster but he was trying to be sarcastic.

Choate has a pretty “liberal/artsy” reputation, so I highly doubt that Deerfield and Choate would have a similar ambiance… Besides, if your daughter loves Deerfield, then wouldn’t it come naturally to her to hate Choate? Hahahah

What is the percentage of Blacks at DA? because I heard DA is NOT that diverse…I’m visiting it tomorrow.
