Deerfield Academy [Deerfield, MA]

im kinda excited for next year =). I have a “conference” with my parents tonite to decide where the best place for me is

Good luck! The choice you make is THE best!

Go jyun!!!

I loved DA and met cool people there. I also liked the preppy look. However, I hated my host! She was terrible…BUT I STILL LOVE THE SCHOOL! =)

Lindha I’m sorry that you and your host didn’t mesh well. The admissions dept. tries hard. Glad though that the experience didn’t completely turn you off to DA. Obviously even great schools will have dislikable kids. Hopefully we have a relatively low number.

And obviously decisions were due Saturday so anyone who chose DA feel free to start with the questions about preparing for next year.

I just sent in my deposit for deerfield this saturday, and i’m really excited. Does anyone know when we find out about our rooms for next year?

You’ll learn your room assignment around the second week of August.

What about placement tests and scheduling stuff? When will we get that?
How does taking two languages work? I take French and Latin and I am not going to drop one, so will I have to drop a history or science for at least part of a year or something?

The only placement test my son took last year was math. He learned his placement less than two weeks after returning the test. There is a French placement test and maybe Latin too. I assume you’ll learn the results within a couple of weeks.

There are seven class periods, so you have two “extra” periods after the five core classes (math, science, language, english, and history/humanities). Many fill the free periods with electives, such as music, extra math and another language.

Are there placement tests for Chinese?

There is no Chinese placement test. They review the book you’re using this year and the material completed. They may also speak to your current teacher and call you with their decision.

We have outdoor KFC soon. Even though it sounds like the fast food its actualy Koch Friday Concert and it’s basically a big outdoor concert in front of the Memorial Building with performers from the DA community…Mostly students.

Thought I might post a couple of gems for your enjoyment;

I’m looking forward to getting to know more about Deerfield. Though my son wasn’t interested, D is definately interested. It’s sounds like a great community.

Thanks, TheGreenMachine. The “Baba O’Reilly” link didn’t work, so hopefully this does. [YouTube - KFC 09](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egw8Zd-fBX0&feature=related) The link also includes “Hey Jude”.

I also found this entertaining. [YouTube - Are You Gonna Be My Girl at KFC (DA)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wka6i9QAKUY&feature=related).

Current national high school lacrosse rankings: [InsideLacrosse.com | The source of the sport](http://insidelacrosse.com/rankingpoll/HS_Power)

The rankings will be updated on Thursday, but should not change as DA beat rival Choate 15-1 on Saturday.

wow, now THAT made me proud to be a DAer next year, 15-1…

DA beat Kimball Union Academy 27-1 this past week, and it was really unpleasant.

that’s pretty beastly and sad :p

At what point does sportsmanship kick in when you beat a team 27-1? As a coach, after being up a dozen or so goals, shouldn’t you be telling your kids to lay off and just pass around? I hope all the benchwarmers were in the game at that point and the starting line-up was taking a rest.

don’t they call the game at a certain goal limit type thing?

creative1, I was thinking the same thing.
