I feel like CC needs a forum just focused on DA. A chance To share the application/admission process, and answers for all the questions I (and surely you have) have. I'm not a current student at DA, just an applicant for 9th grade entry for 2014. So, yeah!

I just went thought the application process. Glad that’s over with. What do you want to know?

@HT2465 was it stressful? How did the interview/your go? Thanks!

It was pretty stressful simply because I handled everything myself. My mom was reluctant to even let me apply but was dad was all for it, regardless they were really busy. My interview was only around 20 min and it really wasn’t bad. It was over Skype since I couldn’t miss school to go to the campus. I had my interview later in the proceess. I’d say sstart studying for the SSAT now because I spent around 3 months studying and I totally tanked the math section (which is really weird because I’m a year ahead in maths and) although I omitted a lot of questions because I ran out of time. Practice writing essays. I had to write a essay in 25 min. Let’s see, build a connection with your trachers. They’re going to be the one writing your rec letters. Keep your grades up. Anything else you want to know?

Nope, you covered everything! Were you accepted?

Yeah. Class of 2015. So excited! Just got my schedule, too

Congrats!!! I’m hoping to join the class of 2018…but I have to get in first.

Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions or ask Deerfield15 or bingalot.

Thanks! I will.

So you know there are really 3 essays, right? One is a graded one from school, one a shorter essay about the best advice you’ve ever received, and one a long one about yourself and what has influenced you. Be very personal-- this is your chance to let them see how you are unique, and maybe to show what you are passionate about and where that came from. You don’t need to be “academic”-- as in, you don’t need to talk about what you KNOW-- but, of course, it needs to be well-written with proper grammar. Just write about what you’re like and what you care about. The graded essay should be an academic, formal essay that you wrote for some class in school.

Hi this is my 2nd year applying… last year I got waitlisted. I am applying for 11th grade. @HT2465: you entered as a junior right? How´s the change, I mean, entering in 11th grade, is it kind of hard at first? meeting new friends? work load?

another question: does it work if I have a few friends and a relative there?

reply to me through messages

reply to me through messages

Is it to late to start my application? I have been waiting for my mom to give me her final say.

No. The application deadline is January 15 and for score reports and recommendations they probably wait until Feb 1. You have got plenty of time to apply which is easy to do online.

Pwalsh, since you are answering questions in a Deerfield thread, May I ask what’s your association with Deerfield?

Yes, you can ask.

OK. Make sure you know this is THE Deerfield, a private boarding school where families with deep pockets send their kids to be raised by dorm parents, then most of them end up in a non-ivy college after spending $200K for an education you can receive in your local public school.

Don’t you know Deerfield is generous enough to give full rides? So you can get a Deerfield diploma without the 200K.

@Benley
What’s w the Deerfield hate? Last time I looked, Andover & Exeter were also full of deep-pocketed kids, and most of them also end up in a non-ivy college after spending 200K.
