Has anyone deferred a year of schooling to travel, gain skill, etc.? I'm thinking about concentrating on a job and working to earn some money for college. I've only finished my first semester and it went really well and set a good gpa for myself, but I feel like I want to just take some time off and recollect my personal/professional goals. I've talked to some people in my family and they are mostly against it because they just want me to finish school, but I don't see a point in going and doing bad when I don't feel like I can give it my all at this point in my life. Also, my family doesn't earn much money and if I work hard for a year, it makes it easier for my family with the whole money thing. What's your thoughts on deferring for earning money.

I already decided that if I didn’t get accepted to my transfer schools that I was going to take off a year for missionary work. You get paid, but just enough for basic necessities. It wouldn’t be for money (although it would give my parents more time to get out of debt and make sending me to college much easier for them), but it’s something I feel like I should do.

I’m in a similar situation as you! I’m attempting to transfer and it’s about a 50/50 chance of me getting in so i’m totally thinking about deferring a year if I do get accepted to the other university. I don’t know, I just feel like I need some time away from school, but I would love to come back to it when I can put all my attention to it.
