Defered ED Anyone?

I received my ED response last week and got deferred. I have not submitted my ACT/SAT scores but have a GPA of 3.76 UW/4.0 W. I have a TON of EC's and community service along with a great interview (ended up being more of a conversation). If I keep these grades up and submit my mid-year senior report, do I have a good chance of getting in?

Has anyone that now attends Wake been deferred for ED and then later accepted? If so, did you thoroughly improve your GPA or submit any extra info (like more recs., etc)?

Thank you.

i dont know much about wake forest, but how could you already have gotten deferred? Maybe they deferred you because you didnt submit all of the required components by the deadline?

^^Wake is test optional, although based on this, it looks like it’s one of those SAT optional schools that is only optional for those with stellar HS records…

No idea what you have to do to be admitted…you may want to enlist the help of your guidance counselor.

Hi Tuner33, This is 2010Freshman’s Mom. We are waiting for my D’s ED application which we submitted last week. She is course is very worried about being deferred. I can’t believe you got deferred, your stats look so good.

You should have the counselor call and reevaluate if you should submit your ACT/SAT or what else you can do to enhance your application. Can you call the person who interviewed you to discuss it?

I was wondering:

 1. For those of us out there waiting…what did the envelope look like…size and only 1 piece of paper? I will be the one getting mail and waiting for her to come home. I would like to be prepared.

2) Where are you from? Maybe if you are from NC or states near by it is more competitive?

3) Did you indicate a major? Sometimes this can differentiate an application.

Anyone out there with Wake Deferral information:

 1. Does anyone know any ED applicants that have every gotten deferred with a 29 ACT or a 28?

2) Let us know if you know anyone who has gotten deferred and then got in, and their information.

Also I have not heard of anyone accepted without ACT/SAT…if anyone is out there please share your information if you don’t mind.

Tuner33 good-luck with your followup and start on Plan B. The good news since Wake is rolling you could still apply EDII somewhere. My D applied ED to Wake and EA to a couple of other schools. She is going to apply EDII somewhere if she does not get into Wake.

Let us know about the envelope, your approximate local and major.

Thanks, 2010Freshman’s Mom

The envelope was a regular letter size that was very skinny. I did declare my major, which will be business. Also, I’m from Tennessee.
I’m sorry it took me so long to respond. I’m very busy with other apps, sports, and going out of town for Thanksgiving.

I’ve got a question for anyone else out there…my friend applied ED to Wake the same week that I applied but hasn’t gotten a response yet. I’ve noticed that Wake sends their approvals in waves and I’m thinking that maybe there is a pattern. Does this mean that he will get rejected because he has not heard anything yet?

your friend might want to check with the admissions office to see if they got all of his paperwork. my son had sent his application in in early september, but one teacher had been slow in sending in the recommendation. i found that out when we called the admissions office, and we gave the teacher a gentle nudge. we got word on friday.

Tuner33…Hang in there and thank goodness there a lot of great colleges out there.

My S applied ED the first week of November and of course we have not heard anything yet. He did contact Wake to make sure they had all of his information. They emailed that his application was complete and was “in committee for review.” My S applied to four other colleges EA and may apply EDII to another if he gets deferred.

Let us know when you friend finds out. I agree he should check with admission to make sure his application is complete. Good luck and keep forging ahead!

tuner: hang in there, keep pushing, and yes, remember there are a lot of great schools out there.

dedicatedmother: good luck. this was the week where the mail at my house started showing up at 8 pm.

Thanks for the support guys. After the holidays, I will have applied to 12 schools so I’m trying to stay positive. I just want to get in to as many schools as I can in order to have a good range of selection. I was too busy getting my Wake application finished to do any other applications EA (with the exception of one) so February will be a month with many letters.
As for my friend, he has contacted the admissions office twice concerning his application. All of his documents have been received. Wake has told him that they have made their decision and it is in the mail. So, he’s a bit confused because I got my response over two weeks ago. I’ll let you all know if he gets in or not!

Tuner,
If I may make a suggestion (and maybe you have already done this), consider applying to University of Richmond. Academically, it is equivalent to WFU and its business school (Robbins) is very highly ranked and regarded. The campus is drop-dead gorgeous and the people we met on our campus tour were wonderful. Also, re Robbins, it is undergoing a construction expansion and that will only increase its competitiveness. UR also offers Early Decision II.

It’s good you are not sitting around waiting for one particular school that deferred you; there are too many other great ones out there to explore. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been considering that school but have only been on the fence about it because of its small size. I have received many recommendations to check out UR. Since it is common app (and won’t be as difficult to complete as WFU), I may apply and will definitely visit if I get in.
Thanks again.

D was deferred also…still hoping for the RD round. It really makes for a looong process!

bettkzke, nice to cross your path again. I’m sorry your D was deferred. Good luck with the RD. Did she apply to Elon? My son is RD for Wake and EA at Elon (Dec 18 d-day).

Good seeing you too, DB! Thanks for the condolences…it was pretty sad for a time around here, but we realize that a deferral is not necessarily a rejection. D submitted more info so we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime she’s been accepted at her safety with probable merit money, which softens the blow. She applied to Elon RD–best of luck on the decision…can you stand the suspense?!
