My D has been accepted into College of L and S at UC Berkeley for the Fall 2014 and we have been real excited about it as she truly deserves it. Yesterday, we had a follow up of one of her tests (that was last done in Dec 2012) and the doctor is not too happy with what she saw in the test and so has put her on a medication that she wants us to try until Aug 2014 and then decide if she would require a surgery to correct the issues. This surgery is a major one and requires at a minimum 8 week period to rest. So essentially, until August, we do not know what is going to happen.

When we did mention to our doctor about the dilemma and that how much my D has worked hard to secure this admission, she immediately wrote a letter indicating the facts --- that there would be a re-evaluation in August to decide if surgery is needed and she has also requested the college to defer her admission.
Now, we are in a dilemma as to whether we should talk about this at the Cal Day itself.
Do you think we should mention about the deferral now itself or should we just submit a SIR now and then deal with it in August?

We are seriously interested in my D attending the UCB but need a little more time because of her surfacing medical issue. She has had a lot of health issues since her Sophomore High School year but has managed to pull through and has emerged pretty successful and so I would hate to take some wrong actions now and lose her admission status.
Also, she did get a Supplemental questionnaire for her medical issues in which her issues (and her previous multiple surgeries) have been mentioned -- what I mean to say is that the college folks do know that she has faced health challenges and so this is not something new that we will be telling the college now.

This being the case, what are our options?
1) talk to admissions office on Cal Day and tell them everything and show them this letter from our doctor and then do as they say as long as they say her admission to Spring 2015 is guaranteed.
2) submit a SIR now, register for classes and then in August, if we decide that she cannot go back, then at that time work through the deferral process.
3) Or anything else ?

I am trying to get informal responses since I want to play it very safe and make my D attend her dream school as well as help her get all the time she needs for her health.

Thank you for your advice.
