Deferral Letter

So my friend applied early action to CalTech, and apparently since we live about fifteen minutes away from CalTech he got his letter in the mail yesterday. We were standing outside my house, and he was holding a small thin envelope. He tore it open and he unfolded the letter. He got deferred. I don’t remember it word for word but it was something along the lines of: “The Admissions Committee at the California Institute of Technology has decided to postpone a decision on your application at this time. Feel free to send us additional materials, blah blah. We will have your decision ready on April 1, 2006.” I guess that’s what a deferral letter looks like. But when I read it, my heart sank and even though it said CalTech in big orange letters at the top, I really felt like that letter was for me from Penn. Gosh. How horrible. This is taking over my life in the most horrid way possible. :(

hahahahaa haha...HAHAHHAHAAHAHA HAHAHA HA HA AHA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....no seriously...i feel your pain

i'd love to be deferred. i just dont want to be rejected outright

damn that letter sounds kinda harsh

r u the same skierdude?

you'd rather be deferred than rejected? well yeah i guess it's kinda better but i don't know--i'd still like to be rejected outright instead of deferred because the thing is if i get deferred i'll still hold onto some hope that i might get accepted in the spring. but that would be sooo unlikely and so i'd have to be rejected twice by the same school and that really sucks. haha well i have no clue which one is better or worse--i guess i'll find out on wednesday. o.O

I'd rather be deferred than rejected, because I'm going to have an awesome first semester this year (probably 2-3% higher than with what I applied). So I actually think I'd stand a good shot at getting in even after a deferral.

I'd honestly rather be rejected than deferred--I couldn't stand another 3 months of waiting on one school ;) and knowing me, I'd be too lazy to send any more materials in..

same id rather be rejected than deferred...theres like nothing more i can do to stand out
