I know it's really hard to think about, but I wanted to throw out the question. Us deferrees need our own pity thread. Am I the only one that's still in utter disbelief? Anyway...for me...

so sorry you were deferred...so was my son and he is pretty disappointed. It all seems so random. I think that they are looking for particular kids who fill particular niches in that ED round and the regular, smart, well-rounded, nice kids don't fit that bill. Maybe there will be better luck with RD.

hey loveduke its me im applying to two of those wake forest and emory along with lehigh, northwestern, cornell, delaware, michigan, and wash. u st. louis. gl with the deferral process. i was wondering cuz im so indecisive right now, are u gonna try to apply ed2 anywhere to better ur chancees, cuz i want to for emory, but let's just say if i was one of the 10% who got accepted later for duke and i was accepted emory, I would be committed to emory. I don't know what to do cuz duke is my first choice by far, but emory is 2nd by a large margin also and I don't know if i can get accepted to emory without the ed2 benefit. what u think? thanks.

I think you definitely have a shot at Emory without the ED2. Personally, I'd just apply Regular Decision to Emory. What IF you were among the 10% but were already committed to Emory? It could be a decision you'd regret for years to come. I'd just heavily pursue them both. Let them know how bad you want it, and good things could happen.

yea thanks loveduke im still not totally sure haha how far up ur list is emory wud bve kool if we went to same one.... how would u rank them

Excluding Duke which is still my number one by FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...anyway...yeah...

Wake being my 2nd choice:) So who knows...maybe we will end up at Emory!

well, i didn't even get deferred, so my NEW #1 is definetely emory...but here are my other schools:

Emory
William & Mary
Villanova
UNC - Chapel Hill
UT - Austin

lol, i'm sensing a pattern here...

Emory
Boston U
University of Colorado at Boulder
Johns Hopkins
Brandeis U
UVM
Princeton (not expecting anything)

Is anyone else not giving up on Duke? I am planning on sending in a recording of myself (something I should have done ahead of time).

I got deferred.....here is my list of other schools (Duke is still my #1)

Emory
Wake Forest
Davidson
Vanderbilt
Johns Hopkins
Northwestern
USC (California)

Sounds like this is Emory's year as the ultimate Duke back-up school....my friend, who was accepted ED to Duke (Trinity) would also have applied to Emory if he had been rejected/deferred

I was deferred as well... pretty dissapointing but I've decided to apply ED II to Wash U in St Louis. 10% of all the people that were defferred is definitley not a promising stat, and I know I'd be very happy at Wash U. I'm not willing to risk my shot there for a 10% chance at Duke.
Also I figure, it's the student that makes their college experience, not the college. I'm sure we'll all succeed where ever we go-- and it's Duke's loss for deferring such a great group of kids! :)

Good luck with your applications!

since i was rejected, i have no regrets applying ed2 at emory, but since i'm not 100% sure i want to go there, i'm applying regular. i don't hafta worrry about getting rejected tho...my mom used to teach there :)

I'm DEFINITELY NOT GIVING UP. I'm letting these people know I want it BAD...because I do...so bad. I'll do anything to just spend a semester at that school...desperation...

if you wanna spend a semester at duke...go to chapel hill and become a robertson scholar. then you can take a semester at duke!

chapel hill ::shudders:: sharing my space with that many people? ahhhh

hey guys i know i'm new here but i got deferred too..blah..i'm not giving up on Duke either! I am also applying to a couple of schools..including Emory..haha.. just wondering, my bro goes to Wash U..do you think that'll help me? I'm kind of counting on it in case all else fails..

Wow, I guess I'm most different from you people. I was deferred, and I still want to go to Duke, but I have other choices of which I was accepted to

Georgia Tech
Michigan- Ann Arbor
NC State

I'm just so depressed

Hey guys, I'm a sophomore at Duke and I just wanted to see if I could help those of you who got deferred. Out of my close friends at school, I have 3 who were deferred ED and then accepted regular. I dont know what the statistics are, and obviously I dont know people who were deferred and not admitted, but...it does happen. Duke is awesome, keep your hopes up, but, at the same time, if you go into your college experience planning on having fun, you will have fun anywhere. Almost all of my friends love their schools. Good luck.

maharani:

i don't think having a brother at the school will help you too much. at my school, there were 3 instances of this (columbia, yale, duke), and all of the applicants were qualified/over-qualified. needless to say, all 3 of them got deferred.

Man...everyone from my school is getting DEFERRED. All the people at the top of the class, and more have been deferred from their top choices. Seems to be the flavor of the year...
