Deferred applicants

I was recently deferred, and I’m now having doubts about other places I intended on applying before I chose ED for Amherst. So I have a few questions. Does it make sense to waste the money applying to Williams or the ivies if I wasn’t a good enough applicant to be accepted ed at Amherst. I’d be interested in hearing any testimonials from people on if they were deferred from a competitive school, and if they ended up at one possibly higher ranked…Also, does anyone know the acceptance rate for deferred students? higher or lower than regular decision? And does anyone know roughly what percentage Amherst defers every year? Thanks

Amherst receives applications from plenty of qualified applicants, so much so that they can hardly take everyone deserving of a spot. Being qualified enough to even be deferred is a sign that you are a highly gifted applicant and should be competitive at top tier schools.

I was deferred, too. But I’m an international applicant. I think you should still apply some reach schools, I heard many students who got deferred in ED round and then made some really good results. Good luck!

I, too, was deferred.
Keep in mind, however, that Amherst rejects applicants that get into ivies.
My friend got rejected from Amherst ED and then, in RD, got into Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
Still, I’m super nervous. I feel like schools paid special attention to SATs this year when making their ED choices.

One of my good friends was deferred from Amherst. He was accepted at Princeton, so keep on…

I was deferred too. Good luck with the rest of your search

I am an international applicant and I too was deferred by Amherst. THere’s still some hope I guess. Among 100 International applicants they accepted some 7 only!! So, they will be accepting more at RD!
