Fresh: 80
Soph. 86
Junior: 91
Senior :95, so far of course
So this culminates without my senior grades into 3.05, or about 85.6

SATs: 2070, 710 M, 640 CR, 720

These are my stats. Basically Pitt sent me a letter saying they want my mid-year grades which as of now is a straight up 4.0. Are the chances of me getting into Pitt high?

P.S. sorry I think this thread is repetitve but i couldn't really find a strong answer.

Your major and state of residence matters in your chances, so point them out. As for the deferral, they really do want to see the mid-years; this isn’t a kiss-off. So send them the grades when you get them. Call up your admissions officer and talk to him or her about your appreciation for his or her deferring your app and about how much you like pitt and want to go there. Produce specifics about Pitt to demonstrate your knowledge of the school and your major. Be upbeat. Good luck.

@RobbyP I’ll be honest. Your grades are much lower than your SAT scores indicate the level of work you can do. Are you taking AP or honors courses? Pitt definitely looks at rigor . If you are that may help you.

robby, given ur upward trend and strong SAT scores, i certainly hope u have a chance. def keep those grades up. Appeal or whatever your options are if they reject u. point to the upward trend and if there were reasons for ur low GPA to start, get into them. if a teacher or GC can help u make your case, enlist their help. right now, just work on the GPA and see what happens. but be prepared to ask them to reconsider if u get a reject letter. if i was on the admissions committee, i’d be curious about what happened with your grades(ie what is the back story), impressed by your upward trend, and unable to ignore ur test scores. They alone show the potential to do well in college but i’d want to be convinced you will work at that potential. i’d also be looking at the classes you are taking. im not so sure i;d demand AP or honors; they would help but if you are taking so called easy classes to pull ur GPA up, i’d be less impressed by that then solid high school classes(eg science, math at your level). Wish you the best and outstanding job in improving your grades.

Thanks everyone I don’t know if this changes much but i’m a Nj resident going for pre-med. Yes, I am taking rigorous courses, 2 Aps, 1 honors, no study halls, and I currently have a 4.0 cumulative

My guess is NJ won’t help cause there are prob a decent amount of NJ kids at pitt. it seems that when Pitt defers, it’s a maybe and they tell u what they;d like to see improve or at least stay the same. Since they gave you a maybe(and not a no or an accept to another Pitt campus in liue of the main campus), they must have seen something they liked. Again, your primary focus is to maintain that high GPA for this year. That way, you are going in with your best foot forward. i am impressed with the upward trend, Some kids get a rough start in high school or even all through high school and then blossom later. jkeil had a lot of great advice too so take that to heart. Keep us posted.
