Deferred at Case Western. Should we still apply for scholarships?

Son was deferred EA at CWRU and will move to RD. Scholarship deadline is 1/15, well before RD decisions. CWRU is still a top pick, and he would qualify for several scholarships. Can he still be considered if he applies, or is it a lost cause?

ACT: 35 (36,35,35,35) not super scored
GPA 3.9
Strong Honors, AP courseload (4s & 5s)
Excellent ECs - Eagle Scout, FRC Robotics, XC, NHS, Show choir, Theatre, volunteer, etc, etc

*CWRU. Sorry

why wouldn’t you apply for their scholarships.

Definitely apply. All the other RD kids will be applying.

Yes apply.

This is our 1st going to college, so we’re learning as we go. Case is his only deferral. Unfortunately it came after his HS was out for winter break, so he couldn’t talk to his counselor about anything. He has a lot of scholarship apps to complete during break, so we wanted to be sure he spent time in the right places. Thanks for your help.

Case gives a lot of scholarships. He should write the essays.

If it is a top choice and he has scores >75%tile, then I would definitely apply.

Yes, college applications are frustrating…but I think it is best not to regret the “what ifs” but know that you made a reasonable effort for the schools you were interested in.
