Has anyone who was deferred received any more information from CWRU in regards to our next step? I thought we were to receive an email in January letting us know what additional information/steps that we would need to take.
Has anyone received any kind of communication (email/regular mail) regarding this matter?
Usually deferral means that your application will be considered in the RD pile. The only additional information would be a higher test score on a retake or a major new accomplishment.
I’m writing a quick note today to students whose admission decision was deferred from early round to our regular round to express my hope that you remain interested in Case Western Reserve.
I understand that having your application deferred has likely come as a disappointment. More than half of CWRU’s applicants come to us through the regular decision application process. As a result, it is impossible to have a full understanding of our level of competitiveness at the time that we notify early applicants. We know that leaves many promising early candidates without a final decision from CWRU.
Because we are conservative with our early offers of admission, this usually means that a significant number of deferred applicants are ultimately admitted and enroll at CWRU.
All students who are admitted after being deferred from the early round:
are considered for need-based financial aid under the same policies as all other students admitted to CWRU through the early or regular process.
are considered for merit scholarships under the same policies as all other students admitted through the early or regular process (around half of the deferred students who were admitted in our regular round in 2015 received a scholarship).
are guaranteed on-campus housing.
In the coming days, we will request that you complete a short application update via your applicant status portal, as well as confirm that we have a transcript that includes grades from your most recent term. If you still wish to be considered for admission, please be sure to complete both these important action items.
Now that we’ve filled out these application updates and semester grades (hopefully) sent out by HS, does anyone know if CWRU ever notifies those on the waitlist early, or will we definitely not hear back until regular notification around March 20? I know their emails says on or by March 20 but some other schools let those on the WL occasionally know earlier so was wondering how CWRU worked. Anyone know from past years?
If you were deferred, you are not on the waitlist…it is now as if you applied regular decision. I am pretty sure you won’ hear until March 20…if at that point you aren’t accepted, you can take a place on the wait list. With Case, if you are on the waitlist, if they are interested in you they usually ask if you would attend if you were to be admitted…if yes, then you would be admitted if no, then probably you wouldn’t be. Search this forum for when they usually take people off of the waitlist (if you don’t get admitted).
Thanks @bopper , you are right, wait list is not the correct term. I did search the forum for the information before posting this and didn’t find anything which is why I asked. I’m a parent with a college sophomore as well, so understand how wait lists and deferral works. However some of the other schools DD has applied to (and one where she was accepted EA) have been notifying some deferrals of an earlier acceptance, which made us curious about Case, especially since the deferral implied that midterm grades would be important, and those have been submitted and were particularly strong.
We’re in that annoying limbo state so grasping at straws wherever they may be…
My question was whether anyone knew if people might hear earlier. I appreciate your input @bopper but if you don’t know the answer you actually don’t need to reply. As mentioned, I’m an adult so really wasn’t looking to hear ‘you’ll know when you know’…
Guys, as a general note, Case sometimes does this thing where they defer some top level applicants, because they think that they’ll go somewhere else anyways. Because applications are free, a lot of people (of every applicant level) will apply, and Case defers a lot of them to lower the admissions rate, then admits them on regular.
Hey I apologize if this might seem off topic but if you were deferred by Case, and you fill out their deferred applicant form with extra extracurricular information AND do their optional short answer to show that you are still interested, would you have a great shot at getting in regular decision? I’m pretty bummed about getting deferred and I’m still really interested in going to Case.
I haven’t heard or received anything from Case since they requested updated information back in January. I read on other posts that some individuals received “Likely Letters”. I’m assuming those individuals who received the “Likely Letters” had applied RD.
