I got deferred from CWRU and need to submit my application for my continued interest. I did the optional essay and ended with a 3.83 gpa last semester (1 B). However, I do not have any updated extracurricular activities nor updated academic achievements to add. Will that hurt my chances a lot of being accepted? Does Case Western even accept that many deferral applicants? I have a feeling that my application might’ve been deferred due to submitting my financial aid documents late.
CWRU does admit people that are deferred. It means show then whatever you got. Out your best foot forward and tell them why they need you on the campus and why you want to be there.
I don’t think most realistically have new items. It would be assumed that you continued with the ECs you applied with.
You were deferred because they were not ready to make a decision and wanted to compare you vs the remainder of the applicant pool.
Make sure you continue to open their emails. Play videos. Maybe attend a session if there’s one of interest.
In other words continue to demonstrate interest if it’s a school you have high hopes for.
I agree with what @tsbna44 said. Also, if your parents are getting any emails, have them open them and click on the links and spend some time on the pages they are directed to. You should do the same. CWRU tracks interest and this is one way to show it.
Greetings all, and congrats to those who have received admittance! DS was deferred. He has been in regular contact with coaching staff but the hang up is he has a single C on his transcript. Aside from that, stellar student with the AP’s and dual enrollment courses 3.8 unweighted. Deal breaker? Thanks for the help!
You are asking if the one C on the transcript means a definite no after a deferral? No way to know for sure but people can certainly get into all levels of schools with a C. It may depend on the class or when they took or why… certainly can address the why the C as well with admissions. Let’s think what grades are supposed to really mean. A C means average. Sure let any given person is allowed to be average in a some area that is out of the strength. A are supposed to mean that the student has excelled and Bs are better than average.
Continue showing interest and maybe have your child reach out to the AO and see if there is anything else needed expressing excitement in the school.
Good luck.
CWRU is playing the yield game. They defer many people and then try to get you to go EDII and also happen to mention the RD option. We did not move forward, because there was no mention of merit. We were not willing to have the potential of full pay. The deadline passed and we still got email asking for us to reapply. In fact, we got email up until last Thursday. It really was a big turn off. From some research, Tulane also does this tactic.
And Miami. I think most push u to go ED2 if they have EA and defer. If you can get a guarantee, you’ll favor it over a maybe.
