Deferred Chances

you're now under regular decisions pile so like them, you will be checking your NEW status in a few months. rejected/acceptees still have the letter on their accounts though, i think.

Does anybody know how being reinserted into the applicant pool works? Do they know that you applied ED? Is that good or bad? Do more people get deferred than rejected? Is there any place that I can find statistics on this? My guess is that it's pretty bad because most of the kids who just have to go to an ivy league school apply to all of them with cornell as their safety, so that puts us lower in the standings than we were before, and we obviously werent high enough even then.

i'm guessing its not possible to withdraw an application, and resubmit it to another college at cornell. if it was...would it be advisable? for an out of state applicant at CALS?

snappleyum, where are you getting this info, because i'm seriously thinking about getting a job if what you're saying is true
But why would they cut down the ED acceptatnce rate by half and at that sexually discriminate the boys who are trying to get in....sounds weird for a boy to use hte words sexually discriminate but yeah...they are being sexist in a new way
IS it because of the bigger rate of male accpetances than female from the previous years?
And why would they cut the amount of EDer's by half???

i think we all have to remember that we don't know everyone who got in and the others who did get into the hotel school (that we don't know of) may be males. do you really think that a renowned school in Cornell would sexually discriminate? it just sounds sort of ridiculous to me

I called up the admissions office.. As for the male/female thing, I don't know what to tell you

yeah, congratulations snappleyum on your accpetance! i'll see you next year

For the acceptance rates based on male female, the numbers show that more women are admitted than men (hotel)

But i guess i misinterpreted it, because the Hotel school has more female applicants
Sorry ^^....

someone may have already said this... I am about 85% sure that Hotel accepts only about 30 people ED. Which means that the other 31 people that it says get accepted ED, get off the deffered list. Also, I am pretty sure that during the ED round, they generally go for stats more than passion and expereince. This is all speculation, but I know the deciions of about 20-30 people who applied Hotel and that seems to be the trend. Deffered Hotelies DO NOT GIVE UP. WORST THING YOU CAN DO IS NOTHING. I AM HERE TO GUIDE ALL HOTELIES THROUGH THE PROCESS. ASK ME FOR HELP!!!! 9/10 times, I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING!! haha. but so true. AIM - Hotelery09

wait.. so what CAN you do if you get deferred? my school does not give me friggin advice on what to do! i need helppp! (and i dont have aim!)

Does anybody know who got "rejected" from the hotel school?, it seems as if everybody got deferred (i mean majority)...I can't find anybody who got rejected from the hotel school on ED...

also hotelies, when i had my interview, they said 53% deferee's get accepted in the end
and if you got defered, i STRONGLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY suggest getting an additional hospitaltiy job/internship even if its sitting at a desk for 3 ohurs a week.. you need to let them know you are still interested

snappleyum, how would i inform then that i am working at a hotel? write a letter? seems kind of confusing how i would tell them that i am still incredibly interested

yes you write them a letter probablyaround the beginning of february updating them you are still interested and what you have been up to

what percentage is accepted at Human Ecology?

My counselor was telling me to respond immediately....possibly today, adn send them a total of 2 or 3 letters.

And about getting a job in the service industry, should that be during my winter break for 3 weeks or can it be during our school semester for a month or two, as the first few months of senior year 2nd semester is uniumportatnt and i will be able to work over the weekends.

I'm just absolutely clueless about jobs and internships i should take for the hospitality industry because of my lack of experience with it in Thailand, nearly unavailable for international students even without pay because i would be taking a job away from a thai person.

THe labor laws and immigration laws are really strict here for Koreans and getting a job or internship is really hard without any connections to hotels or the service industry. Should I mention this in my letter, or will it seem like I'm whining....?

Thanks

If you are deferred, at a minimum, send a letter letting Cornell know that you are still very interested and that Cornell continues to be your first choice of school.

It is best to do this if you have anything to send to update your application -- additional work experience, additional relevant recommendation, or extracurricular activities or anything that might be of interest to the admissions people.

But even if you have nothing additional to bring to their attention, write the letter to let them know of your continuing interest. It doesn't have to be right this minute -- get your other applications finished. But do it in Jan or Feb.

I don’t think Cornell will accept everyone (three people) who applied to their school…won’t that make them look really easy? But it’s amazing that two people got in. My counselor told me that sending additional documents is okay, but sending too much puts them off. So don’t send everything you’ve posted up there (letters, your counselor’s, recommendation etc), but choose the ones that you think are important and send it to them.

and that’s really strange- because when I called the admissions office, they told me that they accepted more than ever this year. (for hotel, i don’t know about the other schools). This really put me down. And knowing that hotel only picks a limited number of students of around 30, …i have nothing to say. (i was deferred too, btw)
