^ Agreed.

MIT has not taken someone from my school in 5 or 6 years. Only 2 people including myself applied this year, and the other one wants to go to Harvard. We both got deferred. I hope both of us get in and I think both of us are due to get in, but if it comes down to one or the other, MIT is my dream school and his is Harvard, so Harvard can have him.

MIT has only taken 2 people from my school in the last 5 years or so… plus this year, a guy that also applied has a sister already there who is on one of the athletic teams and he is nationally ranked in his sport

@aznjunior

Don’t say that. Are you in state?

Keep hope and faith!

nah, i live with corn and wheat fields lol

well you wouldn’t have been eligible fro Regents anyways if you are out of state. :)

Regents? You’re talking about the NYS regents?

I was talking about Berkley regents… Are you sure it’s just in state? That would be a huge relief, although people in the regents board were saying how it was both OOS and IS

[UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office: Undergraduates » Types of Aid » Scholarships » Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship Appeals](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/undergraduates/RCfaq.htm)

Out-of-state applicants to Berkeley are, in fact, considered for Regents. Look at point #7 on that page.

Oh ok my bad then. I thought it was only for in state

Haha, it’s all good. I might need that scholarship, after Sunday :D

i know it says OOS considered, but I havn’t seen anyone OOS get invited this year…

I’m curious to know what other people have done to bolster their applications? Personally, I submitted an additional reference from a sports coach/family friend, and started a new community service initiative.

I submitted an additional rec to show another side of me. Also, I tried hard to score high on the AMC and let them know that.

I sent in another rec, let them know about a new activity and just got good-ish first semester grades.

I sent an additional rec too. And since my physics and calc finals were 2 days after deferral, I was certainly inclined to end the semester on a high note. Fear is a great motivator.

My excitement over being deferred and not rejected was a pretty good motivator too. Haha

@aznjunior - As far as I’ve heard, OOS candidates for Regents don’t get an interview.

All I did after getting deferred EA was get some good mid-year grades and pick up a couple of awards at a regional EC competition [btw, does “regional” mean multi-state or an area encompassing several cities, but not necessarily multiple states?].

All I did after getting deferred was organize/lead some more service projects through my school’s Interact Club, and I got National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar Candidate status.
