MIT 2016 hopefuls

Hi everyone,
Its not very early to start a thread for MIT 2016 hopefuls. All current
home schooled or high schooled juniors can discuss here about your thoughts on applying to MIT,where you can improve, what further to be done for the coming crucial years, prune your interests. You can plan ahead for your junior and senior year and finally make yourself a strong applicant to be considered for admission in MIT. Generally this thread is intended for students who can creatively fine tune their application, and discuss about the problems you may/will have faced during your high school years.Talk about your essay topics, what you like to include in them, your plans & goals, and what you wl do to increase your chances.Reach out to your people, ask as many doubts, clear it now and then, be concise and go ahead.

I am applying for fall of 2011,and I wish I can exchange a lot of conversation, and clarify my questions, and share my goals with the prospective applicants.

Best of luck to class of 2016(hopefuls) applicants.do well, and start your background research early.

Applying for fall of 2011?

I am applying in EA in the fall of 2011! Woohoo I’m joining this club

@O82349 : Applying in the fall of 2011. I request all high school class of 2012(keeping MIT as their option) to join this thread, and get start with discussions now.

One year ago, I would have gladly joined this thread. But I’m now leaning more towards humanities and I don’t think MIT is the right fit for me.

yo!!..lets talk more people…when are u guys planning to take standardized tests, and what are the things you consider to become extremely competitive in the pool…?
Please share, so one has an advantage over another.

Well… I took SATs sophomore year and got a 1830 no studying.

Got a 30 on the ACT no studying.

And I’m taking the SAT IIs the test date after the january one… and I’ll be taking Chemisty, Math II, and US History.

Well, I’m taking the sat in march. I’m also doing some math stuff; im taking the AMC test and hopefully the aime (and USAMO if im really lucky)…and ap tests in may. I did my sat subject tests last year but some schools require three so I might have to take a third this spring, which would be biology.

So how abt for international students?
can we take SAT Reasoning test and 2 subject tests, and skip TOEFL test?

Any plans to take SAT 11 tests in senior yr? If so when is the best time?

^ As a senior, I would definitely encourage you to try and finish all testing (at the very least SAT II’s) by the June testing date because there is enough stuff going on during senior year. You don’t want to be studying for SAT II’s and trying to remember material from 5 months ago instead of writing essays or hanging out with friends.

(One of many California applicants to come.)

I’m set for SATs, but I will probably take the USH subject test in May for the free score reports and the extra 750+, since I’m taking APUSH on the day before.

I do math stuff and physics stuff, but I’m not very good at them (right now), and I only started recently, so I don’t really have any academic honors or ECs besides piano and self-studying math and physics. That’s kind of worrying, since I don’t have much to show off except for those, a decent GPA, and good SAT scores.

Once I finish this RSI essay rush, I will mainly be preparing for the AIME and doing some beginning olympiad problems; my goal is to make and get a positive score on the USAMO. I’m also reviewing old Fnet=ma tests and, later, past USAPhO semi/quarter-final exams. Hopefully, I can make the physics training camp, but I highly doubt that will happen due to my lack of prior practice…

What do you think you’ll major in? (It’s OK if you don’t know yet.) I’m almost certain that I will major in one or more of math, physics, and CS, but I haven’t had enough experience with higher-level courses to decide. (Especially concerning CS.)

When is that RSI app due?

I need to get my recs done and my essays.

Also…

I’m a diehard cs + computer engineering dude, but I’m gonna double major in cs + math… and concentrate in CS on either Human-Computer Interaction or Artificial Intelligence.

Someone asked about taking the SAT and/or the TOEFL (for international students) .

You can take either one (even both) to be considered for admission.
But, I advise you to take the SAT, because most colleges require it, and if you’re applying to more colleges than MIT, go with the SAT.
If not, TOEFL is a LOT easier (though more expensive than the SAT I).

I went through the process myself, submitted the app a few days ago, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask them, I’ll be glad to answer them! :)

@ energize : planning to major in course VI.
did you start working with your summer program app?

@ MIT hopeful16 : RSI due(application receipt deadline) is on Jan 14th,2011.I think you need to hurry up mate.
Time is running out.best of luck!!(:

@ dakilica : I am homeschooled, so I am wondering like how they wish to see the transcripts. especially for MIT, Should we submit a comprehensive portfolio, with grades, course descriptions, or just a transcript?

@ dakilica : thanks for the info, infact I asked.
Before applying to MIT, I will be entering a college entrance program for a yr.
But that school requires both SAT & TOEFL from me, and other tests are nt required.
Can I still apply wid these two tests?

@MITdecode :
I’m not sure about homeschooling because I go to a regular high school, but I think they would request your transcript for sure (although probably not as comprehensive as you think, but you need to check on that) …

@Hanaanhashim91 :
Yes, both are fine, BUT you still need 2 SAT subject tests (one in math, one in science)!

But, I’m not sure whether you could apply as a freshman after that college enctrance program, what is it exactly?

You may need to apply as a transfer.

Check MIT’s website just in case!

Hi dakilica :
here is the website for the early college entrance.
.just lemme know if i hv to apply for frshman or transfer.still confused.I wil be graduating widout a high school diploma,(bcoz this aint a high school,so I cant transfer either bcz they wl need a high school transcript if u hv to apply for transfer admission.

i need to finish my RSI app too… sigh the essays are taking forever… im also applying to Clark Scholars and an internship at JPL.

after this im gonna start studying for AMC/AIME, hoping for USAMO but I doubt it haha.

i forgot to sign up for the SATs for the third time in a row =___= i was originally planning to take the november one… and then i subsequently forgot about deadlines for the november, december, and january tests… let’s hope i don’t forget the march one.

i’m probably studying applied math… seeing things i learned in real life is cool =D
