My son applied Early Action I as St. Michael's is his top college choice. He was deferred. Does anyone have advice on what he can do next to improve his chances? We've visited the campus and had an interview. Would another visit be helpful? He would really love to go to this school.

can i ask what his sat/act was and if he submitted his scores? what about gpa?

Hello CapeMaine--

Your son clearly gave us a reason to believe that he would be a great candidate for the 2015 class, but we are hoping to see some improvement in his academic performance. (or maintained if he had a rough start academically).

The best thing to do in any situation is to contact the school directly, ensure updated grade reports are being sent from the College Counseling/Guidance office.

For any student who is deferred, not only can the improved/maintained academic record help a student, but also the ‘expressed interest’ can also improve a students chances of being converted to an accept. (especially because we’re experiencing a record number of applications!)

I happen to be the rep for Maine. He (or you) can e-mail me directly at jbrown7@smcvt.edu or call 800-SMC-8000 x2913. That way I can look at his individual situation and give specific recommendations!

I look forward to hearing from you and/or your son!

Sincerely–

My son also applied Early Action and was deferred. How can we find out who the rep is for New Hampshire and would it be appropriate to contact him/her?

Hello nhParent--

You can find your son’s rep (Mike Stefanowicz) contact information on [our website](http://smcvt.edu/mycounselor/default.asp).

We encourage the students who are deferred to contact their representative to express their continued interest in St. Mike’s as well as provide any updates to their academic record. Make sure the Guidance Counselor is sending your student’s mid-term grades as well so that we can see his progress.

I know that Mike specifically is quite busy getting ready for several large campus programs, so having your son send him an e-mail might be the best way to reach him.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Sincerely,
