Just heard back from OSU after 10 weeks and I’ve been deferred…
29 on my ACT with a 3.5 GPA
11 APs in my 4 years total with 5 honors classes
Lots of volunteering work, club participation.
1 year of sports.
What are my chances of getting re-admitted?
And what do they look at this time around? The same exact thing or with an addition of the mid year report?
Go to the OSU website and search for common data set. They have the stats there, by year, of how many were offered wait list and then subsequently offered spaces. As I recall, it was pretty high, but you need to search for it. Good luck
@Kashishk36 @nuum83 According to the common data set, 1397 students were offered a place on waiting list. 239 students accepted a place on the waiting list, and all 239 were eventually admitted.
@Kashishk36 I assume you have been deferred , not waitlisted. Waitlisting does not occur until final decisions are made with respect to the regular decision applicant pool in April. I am surprised you were deferred with a 29 ACT and 3.5 gpa and 11-AP courses. Look at the academic profile of the 2014 entering class on the Common Data Set (google it) to get a better idea of your chances for admission. I think you will likely get accepted upon reevaluation with the regular decision applicant pool as long as your mid year grades are strong (assuming they asked you to submit them). Did you apply to a more difficult program such as College of Engineering?
@rgr717 yes, that’s what I meant. I was also shocked. My mid year report is strong, 5 of my 11 are this year. No I did not apply to any special program, just the basic application.
Thanks for the reply!
@Redjericho
Sorry, correction: my weighted GPA is 3.67. I meant to post that. Not aware of unweighted at the moment.
Applied to be a biology major, no special program
You need to figure out your unweighted GPA (which is likely what caused you to be deferred in the first place). As long as it isn’t shockingly low, I honestly think you have a decent chance of being accepted later. Better than many of the other deferred people I have seen at least.
@osuhopeful2940 You definitely have a decent chance. You need to up your GPA as much as you possibly can, other than that you really just need to wait.
