I am a current Senior at a HS. I applied for early action and got deferred. OSU is my top choice and will try to attend it if they accept me!
First Gen. My stats are 4.1 Weighted GPA 23 ACT 8 Writing. Took several rigorous AP classes EX. AP chem AP physics (5). 3 Honors. 4 years of foreign language. 4 years of sports. Few EC. Strong Personal statement. 2 Rec letters (even though it is not required anymore for OSU)
In the email from OSU admissions there were no further directions except that they will give me a final decision after a second review with the regular pool and will give me an answer by end of March! I researched online to what I should do for getting deferred and most sources stated that I should send a current transcript to show that I am doing well on my last year of High school and an additional email to show them that OSU is my number one school. I went to my GC a couple days ago and he said that I don’t have to do anything but wait. He had a student who got deferred but got accepted in the second round.
Is there any suggestions to what I should do? Any comment asap is appreciated! Thank you~
I was thinking of taking the ACT again and applying for regular action but I decided to do EA instead. I knew my ACT was horrible… but thank you for the feed back @hssenior27
@TooOld4School I don’t what you are saying sorry. I believe the osu admission will look at my review with pool of regular decision applications. Then they will give me a final decision after they looked at all the applications in late march.
@hssenior27 I was in various cultural clubs and participated here and there. I think my essay was pretty good but to be honest I am not the strongest writer and English is not my forte haha. I don’t know about LoR’s. I did not see what they wrote about me but I asked to teachers who I had pretty good relationship.
@ClarinetDad16 Idk what my unweighted GPA is but like I stated above my Weighted is 4.1. For class rank, the guidance do not tell us that for some reason but I would say I am in the top 20%. Is there any suggestions to what I should do?
If you would go to OSU if you got an offer (regardless of financial aid) then I'd let them know that by sending a note stating that it is your first choice and that you'd attend if you got an offer. That helps their yield.
If you know your GC, you could ask if he/she would send a note supporting your application even though he/she has already completed a form when you initially applied.
If you are not sure you'd go, you can still express your continued interest and you can still send in letters. Also update them about anything that may be positive and not already conveyed to them..any updates, etc.
@lostaccount Wow thank you for your response! I went to my GC few days ago. I asked him if he could send a note to reinforce and like you said support my application but he said that it was not required or never had to do that? But Yes Ohio State has been my number one choice since I was born haha. So do I just email them or send an actual mail? I don’t have any relatives that went to college in America and my parents immigrated here so I don’t know what i’m doing. Again thank you again for your solutions!
@Gohio7 , I meant call OSU admissions (or use social media) and ask them what the final test date they will accept for this years class. If they will take the Feb 5 ACT test - take it - If you can bring it up 3-4 points you will dramatically increase your chance of admission.
