I applied for the Pharmacy program EA and was deferred into the RD pool, I am pretty much at a loss as to what I can do to improve my chances.

here are my stats:
Female, white, instate
GPA: ~3.8 weighted
rank: 25/180
SAT: 1930 (620 CR, 630 M, 680 W; 11 essay)
mostly honors classes throughout my 4 years. I take AP Stats/AP Bio (school doesn't offer many); very significant upward trend as i didn't care that much freshman/sophomore year. i volunteer at my local library, worked in a public school's administration offices, i participate in "community science" research at the local wildlife refuge, voice lessons, participated in deval patrick's gubernatorial campaign, member of school's environmental club
my essay is great and i have one decent teacher rec and one very very good one.

at this point I don't think my SAT can get any higher. my grades this semester are straight As so hopefully I can maintain that and get high honors. I believe my ECs are definitely my weak point.
I'm not very athletic and my school doesn't really offer many quality clubs or anything, and to be honest I don't get very involved. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what I could get involved in, or what else I could do to improve my chances? should I send in another recommendation?

many other people from my school who applied were deferred as well, but there were some acceptances. i don't know of anybody who was rejected.

Your sat scores are only about average for Northeastern. That is probably why you were deferred since the pharmacy school is more selective. It might be too late to retake SATs at this point, so I guess if you’re really set on attending you can write them an ‘update letter’, although I’ve never heard of anyone doing this outside of ivy league/top school deferrals.

And you probably won’t get much merit aid if you were deferred to begin with, so if finances are a big issue, NEU might be out of the picture. I think you still have a decent chance of getting admitted, but don’t spend the next few months obsessing about it.

To be honest, I don’t think it was your ecs. I had a few (like two or three, maybe) honors clubs from high school, but I didn’t have anything else. I really think it’s your gpa. 3.8 weighted seems low for the pharmD program. Most of the people I know in it had like 4.2 or higher weighted, and 3.5 or higher unweighted.

I was also deferred (from the business school–and with lower stats than you) and my guidance counselor had me write a letter updating NEU on recent achievements and stating my interest in the school (it’s my top choice). I don’t think this will help at all, but it can’t hurt either. Maybe you could do the same?

I was also deferred from the northeastern pharmacy program with a little better stats than you. My guidance counselor was quite surprised that I wasn’t accepted based on three previous students he knew of that were accepted with worse or comparable stats than mine. He decided to call the admissions office to find out what I could do to improve my application and they mentioned that I should send in my first term grades. I was shocked to find out they didn’t have them despite my application being complete on my status check. My counselor called the four other schools I applied EA to and they had all received them. So I advise you call the university to make sure they have them as they’re a required part of the application.
