Hello,

I am wandering if somebody deferred at Princeton in EA was accepted with the RD? From what I saw not really…

Thank you for your answers.

@cgilflo do you mean were they accepted for the class of 2016? I am guessing you mean that year since this years RD’s have not come out. Princeton did not accept any students from the waiting list last year as they over enrolled through initial offers of acceptance.

@hayes93, same with me. and we have some of the same backups. Mine are ND, Georgetown, Stanford, Chicago, and Duke. Gosh, I feel so crappy about it. Why was Princeton your #1? I’m super interested to get the perspective of others because I’m the only one of my friends and really of my school (super small, 12 in my whole class) to be seriously interested in and qualified for the top schools.

@puclassof80

Many of my Princeton classmates were “well-rounded” in high school. People just tend to hear more about the IMO medalist

Deferred as well, but honestly, I’m about as happy as one who got deferred can be. I thought I was going to be on the lower end of the spectrum (3.8 GPA, 31 ACT – but a ridiculous amount of leadership etc.) so when I found out I was deferred, I was pretty happy (after a day of moping) that they were giving me three more months to prove to them how badly I wanted to go there. I sent them an email expressing why I would be a good fit, and why I think they are a good fit for me, and plan to send a card sometime in February.

Does it make sense to call and find out why I was deferred?

Besides Princeton, I applied to: Harvard (who I interviewed with on Friday), Dartmouth, Williams, Boston College, Tufts, Connecticut College, Union, and Western New England. What about you guys?

@MargaretE They will not tell you why you were deferred if you call. There were over 3000 students that were deferred, so students were deferred for a host of reasons, the primary one being a lack of space in the early round.

Also, since you applied as a “chemical and biological engineer” and presumably wrote the engineering supplement essay, it is truly a red flag for them that you had a 600 on the math SAT 2 exam (don’t know what your SAT I or ACT math scores were but I’m assuming they weren’t stellar). Also, there is very little, if anything, in your profile that speaks to your passion for chemical or bioengineering (or math and science in general). This is in my humble opinion the main hurdle you need to overcome.
