<p>I applied early action and got deferred and I was wondering if you all might have advice on what to do now. Additional recs? Essays? I've won some awards and been accepted to some decent programs (I'll be taking undergrad classes at Penn during the spring semester,) so should I include this info?</p>

<p>It is very important to let the admissions officer know that you want Harvard and that you WILL accept if offered (of course don’t write that if it is not the case…). As for more information, if there are changes that are non-trivial–indeed material (you have had a poem published, you have won a award, your research has been given a grant etc) then let them know. Your school will send the mid-term report of your grades and they will ake a difference-- if your board scores weren’t quite great see what test dates are still acceptable to Harvard and work hard to improve them.</p>
<p>BUT the most important thing is that you don’t get too hung up on just one college-- even, maybe esp, Harvard. There are a variety of terrific colleges both universities and LACs that will give you a first class educational experience and from which you will have the most memorable years of your life. It would be a shame if the RD does not go your way that you view going to one of those other institutions with a sense of regret --with a bit of a chip on your shoulder. You will be harming yourself–and for no good reason. So get excited about those other RD applications you are writing (btw, if you are just going through the motions, that frequently shows in an application).<br>
Where ever you go will be fortunate to have you–remember that.</p>
<p>Thanks you two- excellent links gibby, and I appreciate the words of encouragement etondad. While it is my first choice, I’ve tried to keep my “distance” in the eventuality that RD doesn’t work out.</p>
<p>To all those deferred, have you received your decisions via regular mail? I was notified via email but until now no letter decision yet…</p>
