Deferred-Will these semester grades get me in?

whyyyyyy did you get deferred??
That doesn't seem right at all.
Are you showing us the whole picture?

Are you a permanent resident? I heard maybe that could be a reason for deferrals..?

The GPA listed at the beginning is just for senior year. I have a 3.61 cumulative GPA. The thread is just to see if I made good enough grades this year to push me into the accepted category.

I just got into clemson engineering(oos) today. NC STATE and UNC both deferred me. What is up with these state schools???

To tell you the truth, there is no telling what is going to get you in and what isn't. I called the admissions office when I got deferred and they told me that only a handful of deferred applicants eventually get in so not to get my hopes up.

Does anyone know how many people get in after being deferred???

Or how many people were deferred (vs admitted or rejected)?

Princeton or UVA yes, those carry much weight in the work world. But unc does not have the same name in say NYC, or Chicago.

In terms of a business degree I am not sure I agree with you. If you look at GPA UNC is higher although UVa has a higher average GPA.

unc please, what school did you apply to at NC State?

I did Engineering, I was recently notified that they are reviewing all the kids at my school who applied to state.(something about some errors they might have made) It was very suprising I didn't get in, I just got into GA tech(oos) which is way better(#5 undergrad engineering) than State(#like 30) according to the recent rankings. NC state does have tech beat in price. In-state tuition is the best!!!

i was gonna say, i know nc state is not as competitive as some other schools (although it is still a great institution). good luck with getting in! i got accepted into state a couple days ago, but my heart is set on UNC if they'll take me. :]

Admissions actually told you not to get your hopes up? That's harsh! I'm an OOS-deferred person so I didn't have much hope anyway, but that's quite a kick in the arse!

I'm sorry but it doesn't seem possible that you are telling us the whole truth. I have a friend (not a minority) that got accepted into NCSU Engineering and offered a spot in Honors College at NCSU. He's gotten a few C's last year and hasn't taken the most rigorous classes. He also didn't do that well on his SATs and has a class rank of greater than 30. We go to a public school that is not at all academically competitive. He got denied from UNC but the top 12 or 13 people in our class got accepted, plus a few more.

who's this friend of yours??? is he a minority, maybe that's why he got in to nc state?

I am telling the whole truth. It's seems weird to me too!!!

correct me if I read this wrong, you are saying your senior year gpa was 4.07 uw. how can it be unweighted if it is over 4.0? and they don't look at your senior year gpa they look at the hs gpa so you can make straight a's this year but if they other 3 were not good, i am not sure that is going to get you in? the admissions to all of these schools is so random. i will tell you something in a pm regarding the other schools you applied to so read it and you will be surprised cause i was. i think you should just keep in mind that it is usually two or three reading your app and deciding and sometimes that two or three might be looking for something else? obviously, everyone is different and who knows why they say no or yes to certain apps? i sure have read some posts and be surprised at the decisions. keep in mind not everyone tells the whole story here and there could be other reasons for decisions that we don't understand.

That is because an A+ at my school is a 4.3
this is due to the rarity in which they are given. I know of only 2 other seniors who have an A+ in a class.
-->The other three years were half B's half A's. I just seem to do better in harder classes which I am now taking.

Hi,
I got defered too.
My SAT Score was 1900 out of 2400.
I think the low SAT score is the reason I received that response.
But, if UNC really look at how hard a person works for it, they might have a shock looking at me. When I came from India 2 years ago, I didn't know the meaning to more than half the vocab I know right now; also, my unweighted GPA is 3.6 and weighted is more than 4.0(don't the exact). I had to work my head off to get into the USA school styling and language.
I did mention this stuff in my essays, and then guess what?..
A person i know, who is in the admission commity told me that essays are only read in close decisions.. :S..
Also, I think athletics would've helped me, but do they play cricket here..I'm afraid they don't.
Well 20 more days and I'll know if I'm accepted or further delayed (waiting list)or rejected. The first and the last decisions will help me decide what to plan for in the future, more waiting will only ruin my agenda.

r u a permanent resident like me?....lol....then thats the reason.
also, is 3.61 a weighted or unweighted?
