Reflection

Strengths: The fact that I’m basically a college student, my recs and essays
Weaknesses: DEFINITELY my test scores and my GPA. so so crappy, the EA pool was incredible this year.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I definitely think I was deferred because of my grades. I had two semesters of a lot of B’s because I was really depressed (not mentioned anywhere on my app), and I think they want to see how my senior year is going. luckily I’m medicated now and I made straight A’s last semester so we’ll see. Probably not rejected because I’m Latina and In-state
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: accepted at Meredith College with a 20k/year scholarship (biggest one that you don’t have to compete for!), waiting on NCSU in March, a couple other safeties like UNCC and ECU but I don’t care about them

General Comments : I was crushed when I saw I was deferred. I was half expecting it due to my GPA and scores, but it hurt a lot. Luckily I retook both tests and did better and my GPA has went up. I am hoping it is enough because you all on this thread are insanely smart and I’m lucky they didn’t outright reject me! If you all think I will be accepted during the RD round please let me know, the waiting was agonizing and I need that glimmer of hope. Good luck to all of the other deferred students, and congrats to the accepted ones!

OOPS I totally did not mean to start a new thread. I always stalk this site but I just made an account. Sorry!

Does anyone know how many were deferred this year?

Also, do you think if we send additional information it will be given some consideration?

@dudefromnowhere additional info would be appreciated if it shows your improvement. Also don’t send info many times on small updates, it can be annoying. Show some big stuff every time you send

Thanks!

Have they released the number of applicants they deferred?

Hey, it seems to me like you were a strong applicant, and your test scores and GPA do fall within their 25%-75% range that they listed on their site. I’m surprised you were deferred. Good luck and I hope they see your improvement!

@dudefromnowhere If you look at the comments section on the FAQs for Defered Students page, they stated how many students they deferred, “This year we deferred the decisions of 2,888 EA applicants.”

Also: “1,514 of our deferred applicants are from out-of-state.”

@grazingalpaca thank you, those numbers are for 2014 but they are nevertheless useful and an indicator or what it will be this year

I was surprised too, but it’s okay. I am hoping they see my improvement and that it’s enough to get me into my dream school. Thanks for the kind words, I really needed them right now

@earlycollege97 On the bright side its a deferral, which means they just wanted to wait a little bit longer! Hold in there, stay strong! Scores aren’t only thing, but in the time work harder to prove to them that you are full of potentials and promises!
Hope to see you this fall at Carolina =]
