Hello everyone!
In December, I was accepted to Stanford under Early Action and I have every intention of attending. However, I have become increasingly interested in taking a gap year before starting college. I’m currently looking into traveling to China, continuing my study of Mandarin and doing some type of volunteer work. I was just wondering how to go about deferring admission for a year; I’ve looked around the Stanford website, but can’t seem to find any answers.
Any suggestions?
According to question C18 of the Common Data Set, enrollment can be postponed/deferred up to two years. But I can’t find any “how-tos” either in a quick Google search. I’d call and ask.
@simr2015. If you want to take a gap year…you can do that without a problem. There usually is a handful of students who do that each incoming year at Stanford. You first need to go into Stanford Axess for accepted students and confirm matriculation with deposit. Now some schools have a section that you can choose to defer/take gap year during this confirmation process but I can’t recall if Stanford has this sub-classification choice when you are making the deposit to hold your place. Regardless, if that choice is not spelled out…all you have to do is call admissions office with your plan to take a gap year before starting school. It would always be better to let them know earlier than later. It’s all good.
