Up until recently I was very excited to go to college, especially USC SCA, but recently I've been thinking I may want a gap year. Is it too late, since I've already committed to back out for at least the first semester (in a way that doesn't make me have to pay anyway)? If so, is it possible to do a semester and then stop for a semester? Thanks for any responses!

Stick to your decision. Almost every incoming or new student gets cold feet, including me (I went through this in undergrad AND grad) so I know exactly how you feel. If you need to talk to someone, talk to your parents about it. If theyre like mine they’ll think youre crazy and yell at you a lot. But its worth it even if nothing changes out of it. Get it out of your system, and then make your choice. If you do that, you can feel good about it for the rest of your life…

yes you can take a “leave of absence” from USC. You only pay for 1 semester at a time.

You must check with the registrar immediately. I have heard that USC does not permit deferral of freshman year, so if that is your case, get the answer straight from USC. Once you’ve completed a semester (you should check the number of units required), you may apply to take a leave of absence.

I’d suggest you think carefully about what is motivating you to hesitate beginning college now.
