Tulane is one of my top choices.. I applied.. and got deffered.. ouch.. Any tips on raising my chances? And do I really not find out until like April if they accept/reject me or do I find out sooner?

my stats
best sat: CR:630 M:590 W:600 <-- Im taking it onee more time in December
African-American
Rank: top 7%
GPA: 3.48 (i knoww, but there was a strong upward trend.. got all As in Honors classes junior except Chemistry, got a B)

This year I am taking all honors and APs and am only expecting one B (two A+s :) )for my first marking period. Help a brother out ;)!

attacK…I’m not the one to recommend SAT/ACT stuff to help you (I don’t even believe in standardized tests)…but if you want to work on ACT, the Red book is very helpfullllll

do you mean the “real” guide? if so i have that book… but I am not taking the ACT again (it fills up fast around where I live) but am taking the SAT again and will hopefully do better (im at 1820)

sorry to hear that attackzebra! yes, definitely contact your admissions counselor and tell them how much you really want to go! also, try to get those SAT’s up 60-70 points, which should vault you into the middle 50, and then I think you’re good

Hm yeah I will defintly try… how about sending my first marking period scores? Is that recommended? And when will they give me their final decision?

The letter I receieved indicating I was deffered was dated pretty close to when my new SATs were supposed to be receieved. Did Tulane even see my new scores ? And my Online account still says "Your decision is pending review We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a decision by December 15th at the latest. " Despite my being deffered… is it suppose to?

The best thing is to be patient, get all your new data together, and talk to them after they have a couple of weeks with it. What I mean is wait until they have your new SAT scores and until they have your grades from the first full semester of your senior year. If those things help your case, then an e-mail to your adcomm saying that you hope they have received the new information, and that it represents a further improvement in your record and you hope to discuss it with them at their convenience. Probably they won’t actually need to talk to you, but it will prompt them.
