Do any of you have activities you are involved in that could be put in either extracurricular activities or volunteer work? How did you decide where to put it? This past year, I have played piano for the high school’s jazz band. I did not take the class, but I volunteered to do it when their were’nt any available piano players in the band. Though I’ve incorporated it some into my weekly piano lessons, I have kept it pretty separate from other activities. Where would this go under: volunteer work or extracurriculars? It seems sort of borderline.
<p>extracurriculars. Volunteering is something I thought was considered for the "greater good". Whiile it was a good thing you did, I don't think playing for a jazz band is a "greater good"</p>
<p>what if your main extracurricular is volunteer work? then where do you put it?</p>
<p>Wouldn't you have a position and an organization you volunteered with? Fill out the EC slots just the same as for another activity. There should be a spot to highlight certain activities on the application, or you can incorporate your volunteer work into your essay. Any meaningful, character-building moments, small or great? Any humorous episodes that gave you an insight? Any epiphanies? Mine had this question: "Which extra-curricular activity is most meaningful to you and why?" or something along those lines. Is there anything like that on yours?</p>
<p>I volunteered to play french horn in my high school's concert band. I don't consider it to be actual volunteering work. It's definitely more of an EC.</p>
