I’ve been in college on and off since 06. I’m at 81 hours about to have 87 hours at end of semester I’ll be at 110 hours when I get my associates. Will I even be able to get a career with that and if so what do I do? Are sites like linked in and monster actually effective? Also is thefe a degree you can get automatically for having a certain amount of hours or are they all based on program?
I recommend going to your college’s academic evaluator’s office (name varies by school) to have someone evaluate your classes and they can give you an idea how close you are to completing a program. Typically a degree is based on fulfilling specific classes not just having x amount of credits. I would also suggest going to the career center (again name can vary) to talk to them about finding work etc.
There are jobs you can get with an associate’s degree. 68% of Americans do not have a bachelor’s degree, but most people who want to work are employed. However, it is more difficult to find employment with an associate’s degree; and many (most?) of those positions are lower-paying jobs (more working class or lower middle class).
I don’t think there’s any degree you can get automatically by having a certain number of hours. 110 hours is actually pretty close to what you need for a BA - most BAs require around 120 hours. But you still usually have to fulfill degree requirements. Your community college may have a “general studies” or “liberal arts” type major that will allow you to get a degree with what you’ve taken already.
LinkedIn can be effective - the jobs posted there are usually real, and you can often connect with a person who knows something about the job through LinkedIn. In my experience, Monster.com has more low-paying retail or service work, but Indeed has been pretty good.
Linked In & Monster are very effective–but much less so for those without a college degree and/or relevant work experience.
Advisor says 8 more courses til general education in business degree in associates format then at that point it’s looking like it’ll be in my best interest to get a bachelors. Seems like I can be done in under 2 years. Hopefully I dont have to take college algebra/precal I’ve tried them many times and they usually discourage me. I almost had associates at one school and I took precal 3 semesters in a row and eventually threw in the towel for a year lol. So I would like to try something else like finite math or statistics.
Btw I just moved to Louisiana from Alabama and the grading scale is way different here. In bama 90-100A,80-90B,70-80c,60-70d anything lower is failing. In Louisiana you have to have over a 74 in a class to pass it’s like a different country here lol.
