Degree most relevant to your desired career or going to the institution that you would enjouy? BS/BA

Title says all, what do you guys think? I’m unsure of what to do, I have my list of both cases though.

All of the institutions I would enjoy the most don’t have Statistics as a degree. However, there are some others that do have Statistics but I wouldn’t be as happy at those schools.

I’m planning to go into graduate school for a Master’s in Statistics also. Btw, for my top 4 colleges that I would enjoy the most, 3 of them have B.A. in Mathematics and one has a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. Does it really matter?

No, it does not really matter. You can certainly get into a Master’s program for statistics with any Math degree.

I would look at the requirements for the degrees and the course offerings. More than likely, the course requirements for a degree in Math will be flexible and you’ll be able to choose courses that fits your interests.

Further, if your career interests change at some point, you wouldn’t want to be stuck at a school you didn’t like as much just because they offered a degree in statistics.

Also within math majors there are often different tracts. One should be focused on stats If not take electives in stats as noted above. It’s likely there is basic stats requirement anyway Go ahead and look at couple of potential masters programs to see what they require as a guideline.

If you are planning to go to graduate school in statistics, then no I don’t think it matters if you major in mathematics for undergrad, many of it covers the same material. However, you may want to make sure there is a strong foundation for you to study statistics, meaning relevant coursework and enough professors. Most likely statistics will be an integral part of the mathematics major. However, you should look at what they entail. You don’t want to go to a school that the mathematics major focuses on coursework you don’t think you would enjoy (theoretical math, for instance) and doesn’t offer the statistics courses that you desire. It may be a good idea to get some exposure to it more as an undergrad before you decide to pursue it in grad school

For the schools where statistics is not its own department and major, check if the math department offers equivalent statistics courses and/or a concentration in statistics within the math major.
