Delayed SAT Scores-Good Luck with College Board you'll need it

Don't have your scores- prepare to be led along week by week with BS from the college board. Scores were supposed to be released Oct 28, 2010. On that date there was a red banner on the site that said scores delayed, keep checking back till Nov 5th. On the 2nd the red banner disappeared. On the 5th, no scores. First CB operator says this is the first we are learning he doesn't have his scores, we will start an investigation and get back to you in a week. I could tell she was useless and called back to a different number. Next operator says the first operator didn't write anything in the system and there is no investigation and check back on the 12th. I called a few days later and was told there was nothing wrong with the scores they were just waiting to be graded. I also emailed the CB and got an email that the scores will be on the 12th. Now its the 12th and no scores. Today they tell me that the answer sheet was filled out wrong, they are waiting to be scored, check back on the 19th. I tell them I want the scores expediated at no charge as we are doing early decisions (blind without the scores) , he says its your fault the score sheet wasn't filled out properly. I told them I was clearly told last week there was no problem with the test, why should I believe you this week, every week a different tale. I have read online they can pull this BS week by week till the 8 week mark in December. I told them I wanted to know exactly when they will be released. He said they release on Wednesdays and Fridays and he will call score center and get back to me. Lessons learned- the second you see your scores are delayed, call CB, keep calling every few days, press for specific information about the delay, record the number of each operator you talk to and exactly what they say. But that still won't get you anywhere with CB, they are an impenetrable wall. The operators sound trained to stonewall, not be helpful. I am beginning to believe they don't have access to what is really going on so all they can do is put you off. They are not going to tell you the true situation, they are not going to expediate your scores, they are not going to put you thru to a supervisor. Most important lesson was take the SAT twice in May and June to avoid being in this situation, trying to do early decisions with only one set of May scores. When you call their toll line be prepared for a long call, you will be put on hold for 5 minutes each time they "talk to the supervisor" and look into it, if you ask to talk to the "supervisor" your put on hold for 10 minutes and will not forwarded you to a supervisor. They could really improve customer service by giving clear factual information and accurate release dates. Its clear their goal is to give no information, and string you along. They seem to think its good customer relations to encourage you to keep checking for scores day after day for 14 days now, when they have known all along the scores aren't even started. We have been held hostage over SAt scores- completely at their mercy and they know it. One school has rolling admissions and we would have known by now, but we are stuck in complete CB limbo. Will it affect our early actions, will it affect the timing/considered for merit scholarships.....

I’m so sorry you’ve encountered this delay. Thanks for sharing your experience and tips (the best of which is to try to complete your testing before senior fall–we didn’t either, and it IS stressful to be at the mercy of CB!).

As long as you have submitted everything else for your early, rolling and scholarships, the colleges will notice that the only missing ingredient is the CB score report. They know that is out of your control and that delays occur. However, if you haven’t already, I suggest you call admissions and then send a confirming email (so there is a paper trail and not a phone conversation that doesn’t get recorded ala CB) to document simply that you timely requested the score report when you registered for the test, that CB advises the score is delayed and that you are following up with CB about the status every Wed and Fri score release day. As soon as the score is released, self-report it by email.

Also–for your early school–please review their website re: what test dates they accept for early admission applicants. If the accept Nov., then you definitely have no reason to worry, as Nov. scores haven’t even been released yet.

Good luck!

I agree…not to mention it’s another system made for gaining money at other’s expense…
I never had a been experience with them til this month, also with my October scores, and it’s been chaos. Apparently my scores are out, I can /finally/ see them…but it says they haven’t reached schools and I’m applying EA.

Again, I’ll be having to make more calls sigh =(
