Hello,

I'll keep this very brief: is it OK, in the interest of taking courses that are far more applicable to your major, to post-pone IGETC area 3A courses (music/arts) to the (this) summer prior to transfer to UCLA/UCB? I only have two courses left in order to satisfy IGETC, and they are both from area 3A or 3B. Furthermore, the UC transfer counselor at our school indicated to me that they can complete the IGETC certification prior to the July deadline even if the last of the (up to two) IGETC courses are still in progress during the summer (they simply obtain a progress report from the instructors for students already in good standing).

Thanks!

actually, having just completed the Berkeley updates, it seems as if they ALLOW you to do your major pre reqs the summer before transfer, but they DO NOT ALLOW you to finish up your IGETC the summer before transfer.

From the PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS section:
“You may use the summer term 2011 to complete prerequisite course work for the major”

From the breadth section:
“You may not use the summer term 2011 to complete breadth/general education course work”

Thanks. That shouldn’t be a problem for me though, since I applied to an engineering major at Berkeley (engineering mathematics & statistics), and I will have completed all GE and prerequisites by spring 2011.

But for other UCs, and in particular UCLA, I wanted to know if it was still possible. Besides at Berkeley, I applied to college of letters & science (or similar) majors (applied mathematics and/or economics/math) for which IGETC is generally a requirement along with any stated prerequisites.

oh I thought you wanted to know for berk too. As for la, I feel like their requirements would be similar but you should call them up if nobody on here knows!
