So in a freak accident today my friend spilled my Gatorade drink all over my sisters new dell laptop! AHH..

at first it worked fine but the screen started getting weird.. like shiny in some places. i restarted the comp once and then again and the 2nd time it didn't restart. it attempted to turn on, but just turned off. (nothing showed up on the screen). i've been blow drying the keys and the bottom of the lap top too.

My sister has a one year limited warranty. does the warranty cover this kind of damage? and is there any chance the laptop will dry and work fine again?

if the warranty doesn't apply then i'm out $1,000! help please!

there are 2 warranties that Dell offers:

1) the standard "something goes wrong with the computer and we pay for labor and parts warranty"

2) accidental damage warranty. This is what you need, this covers "I dropped it" or "I spilled stuff on it" If you don't have this, you're going to have to pray they don't diagnose that as the cause and refuse to fix it. My friend did this to his mac, and they believed him when he said "my keyboard just stopped working, I swear"

My Inspiron E1705 decided to break a few months ago.

Because they didn't have the parts to fix it with, they just gave me a brand new Vostro 1700 with better specs. It was sweet!

Though I did have the accidental damage (Completecare) warranty.

thanks guys. on the invoice it says... 1 Year Limited Warranty, Warranty support initial year, and dell hardware warranty plusOnsite service

that sounds to me like you do not have the accidental damage warranty

update: computer is working fine now but... screen is all shiny is some places still, almost like stains (colors are fine though) and one of the shift keys doesn't work. i'm backing up all her documents and iTunes songs. my mom says she can get her IT guy or business computer guy to look at it, so i might not have to send it back to Dell.

i don't have accidental damage warranty. the screen and keyboard are damaged. the IT guy said he'll clean whatever has liquid and send back the keyboard and any other parts, except the keyboard. he says returning keyboards is a flag for liquid abuse so he says we can order another keyboard. i think this might work.
